Question First Lupron injection- question

Hi all, just had a question for you. I just recently had my second
surgery to remove a large "chocolate" cyst and some more Endo 2 weeks
ago. I just started on my first Lupron injection last week at my post-op
appointment and for the past few days I have been experiencing some
pretty sharp, uncomfortable pain in my abdomen. I had to have a
laparotomy, so I know I'm still sore from that, but seems like this
started to get worse after I got the shot. I know sometimes the pain
will become worse before it gets better.

Did any of you experience an increase in pain after your first shot?
What symptoms did those of you who are on Lupron experience in the first
few weeks?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Laura

I just had a laparotomy 7/7 and post op appt is 7/29, I am not sure of the pain of being on lupron but I suppose depending on the dosage, I used to take it while doing IVF and the only side effects were migraine headaches. I will be on bcp's but will ask about lupron at my visit

I just finished my doses of Lupron. I don't want to scare anyone (but I wish I would haven been warned) - right around a week after I had my first injection I ended up having severe pain, and then I started bleeding. I bled for almost 3 weeks. I had horrible clots. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. I had to go back to the doctor because I was bleeding so heavy, she gave me something to help slow it down, which didn't do much, but also told me this was a common thing to happen with the first dose. I don't know if you will have the same experience, but I do know I wish I would have had someone to talk to at the time.

I do have a question for you though. Did you have a nurse from ScriptAssist? I did, and she absolutely nothing for me. She never followed up and when I did call she was never there...I'm glad it didn't cost extra cause it was a waste.

I started to bleed after my second shot but my dr had me on the supplemental hormones to help with the menopause symptoms. But once I stopped the supplemental hormones the bleeding stopped...after that it was smooth sailing from then on!!

I had HORRIBLE side effects while on Lupron. I took my first inj. on April 29, 2008 and the hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, and fatigue began not long after. I went through the rest of the school year (I'm a teacher) feeling as though I was another person. I didn't like this new person either! I developed High Blood Pressure, due to the Lupron as well. My gyn doesn't think it caused my HBP but I know how my body reacts to hormones better than he does. I was supposed to get my 2nd inj. today actually. But I didn't. I can deal with the pain better than the side effects! I had no problem with bleeding either. I haven't had a period since my April cycle. Hopefully (I know it sounds dumb) I will get AF before October since we will be seeing a specialist. Sorry this is so long!

Unhappy lupron question??

I am so confused right now, I had a lap and ovarian drilling done on 09/12 right after surgery they gave me a lupron injection, now i searched it on here and seen that some people are taking it while TTC,

when i look up the drug facts in my PDR it says that its contraindicated in pregnancy and can cause fetal demise or deformities, my Dr. also said that if I get PG in the 3 months it takes to get out of my system he would have to suggest an abortion, (which would not even be an option I would leave it in gods hands after TTC for 8 years no abortion will be performed here)

So you must see my confusion??? does anyone have any more information about the lupron injection, what it does, why its given, It would be most appreciated......... I feel like Im going crazy

Thanks so much ,
Angie

When your body goes through a menstrual cycle, the endometrial tissue grows and breaks down causing the severe pain you feel. The cyclic effect of your body's estrogen "feeds" the endo. Lupron breaks that cycle for a while so that your body can reabsorb the endometrial tissue. The same thing happens if you become pregnant. That is why some doctors will tell you to get pregnant if you are even considering having a child (if possible). The nine months that you are not cycling, you reabsorb some of the endo tissue. Your endo will improve for awhile, but not forever.
Lupron is a nasty drug. I would definately use a strong birth control while taking the drug. The good news is that after completing the 6 months, it will probably be easier for you to conceive.

Lupron puts you in menapause, depletes your body of estrogen (this is why they tell you take calcium & d supplements, cause estrogen helps in the processing & retaining of Calcium). Endometriosis feeds off of the estrogen, when the endometrium & endometriosis does not have an adequate supply of estrogen then they *shrink*. The pain you could be feeling could be the shrinking of the endometriosis, and some of the tissue actually dies. As for the lining, it sheds completely making it very thin cause you don't have that estrogen to build up the lining. That's why you have that break through crazy couple of week long bleeding and clot passing period.

This is why you hear of some women being pain free for about a year after their final shot in a typical person with the typical 6 month long monthly IM injections of 7.5mg or 11.75 mg. Now some women will have relief for a few months after injections have ended. Some people only get relief while during injections. It takes awhile for body to realize that you need to start making estrogen when the it recognizes the lupron has left the body. The first cycle you will have after the complete series of lurpon injections will be painful, some will be light, some will be heavy and bleed for awhile.

some research has been said that while on Lupron, cyst will reduce in size on the ovaries in PCOS patients.

now being a nurse and you complaining of severe pain after an lap surgery, I would recommend you seeing your doctor and expressing the pain cause it could be something else.

I wish you luck. give Lupron a shot, the first two months can be a challenge. and in not all people does not work.. I've had lupron 3 seperate occasions of 6 months of injections. The first and second time I had it i had allot of relief from it and even lost weight.. my most recent time I did not get relief infact I got worse... no real explanation why I got worse. but I was very disappointed.

Hi Jen You seem to know alot about the whole lupron thing I seen that you said something about injections every month well after my lap,Ovarian resectioning, (i think thats what its called where they take the wedge out), drilling, D&C and removal of some endo they gave me a lupron shot to "rest my body from normal cycles".

After that on my follow up as i said above My Dr. said I cant get pregnant for 3 months according to him that will be my ONLY lupron injection I just wanted to know is it normal just for one shot and to take 3 months to "wear off" if I have to wait to get pg I really dont want another anyways, plus the hot flashes are killing me along with the mood swings killing my DH.

Oh also on my 1 week check up he said i shouldnt get a period but if i do it will be painful sure enough the next day BAM normal 5 days but lighter. My next appt isnt until halloween so im trying to find out all i can so i can clarify things with him. they never told me anything about vit d or calcium either, just on Cerefolin w/ NAC, Metformin and 81mg ASA because of some mutation gene thing,

Thanks for any Information you might have
