Arrow First post!! What mg of Met works for you?

I was diagnosed recently with PCOS after years of knowing something wasn't. Doc did some labs, took down my history and said, "yeppers. PCOS is what you have!". She gave me an RX for Metformin, 1000 mg total.
So my question is, what amount worked for you? I know we're all different and some need more while some will need less. I've been taking it for 2 months. She said we'd reevaluate after 3 months. I don't notice any change at all. Maybe it's too soon?
Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks~

Hi there,

1500 mg is considered the minimum effective dose, and if you search this board you will find that most take at least 1500 mg, after they worked their way up to it. I have been on 2000 mg for 3 years (but I am also diabetic, and that's what it was prescribed for).

Maybe your doc will consider upping your dose at your 3 month check-up?

Linda

Default Thanks Linda

i do think that my docter is waiting for the 3 month check up. I also called and asked her if I could see an endochronologist and she gave me a referral. I noticed that I haven't been tested for half of the things that I should have been. I'm learning gobs and gobs from soul cysters. Amazing how much experience and knowledge is here.

Thanks again,,,,

I was on 2000mg but for me I think it was too high!!! So I settled with 1500mg and doing fine matter of fact on that specific dose!!!

My DR put me on 500mg to start, with the intent to re-evaulate within two months. I had AF within a week, and have been on three week cycles (21 days, to the day) ever since.
500mg is a low dosage, but it works great for me, although I am still temping to figure out if I am O'ing...
