Default First specialist appointment - what to expect?

Hi i have my first specialist appointment with a gyno in three weeks and i really want to know what to expect or questions that i have to ask. What i want from it all is to is get my horrible pap smear over with, check out my hormone levels and see how bad my ovaries have gotten (from 6 years ago when i first got diagnosed). Then i want my prescription of clomid. It has taken me 4 years to work up the courage to get something done about having professional help to have a second child and i am soooo scared. Any insight cysters?

Default Well....

First, welcome aboard Rell - nice to hear from you.

Congratulations on taking the plunge and trying for number 2 - I see that you have had the misfortune of a miscarriage, so you know that you can still conceive (sorry you had to go through that though).

You will have to have a smear and most likely some blood tests to establish hormone levels. If you can, take in details of your cycles so the Doc can't send you away to start gathering that information. Make sure you know how long you have been TTC and if you are feeling naughty, LIE!! Tell him you have been TTC like mad for ages - it tends to make them sit up and take notice (and is very naughty, but what the heck).

You will be assessed in terms of weight and overall health and you may be asked to have a scan of your ovaries so they can see if there is any cysts. That's painless, albeit yucky. They may test for insulin resistance too, if you tend to show signs.

Good luck! Drop by more often and join in the chatter.

hi megan thanks for the reply and welcoming me! i've been cruzin the boards for a while but every now and then i might post. I am sooo nervous about the appointment, as i do have a naughty little 'secret' that i really might have to stretch the truth about. I haven't had a smear test done in six years!!!!!! I know i am very naughty but i cannot stand them (as most people can't) and just kept putting it off for another day and whoops there you go, six years passed! At least i know i can get preg on my own and DH and i definetly have been trying for at least 4 years now.

Thankyou so much for the info, it definetly helps and now i will be armed with lots of info for the doc and i definetly will be asking lots of questions. The most horrible thing i am expecting is to be told that i need to lose like 5-10 kilos and before they will start me on clomid (i'm like only an australian size 14), as this happened to a friend of mine and she's exactly the same size. I haven't put on kilos since i lost my baby, if anything i think i might have lost 3 kilos. Thankyou again and i hope to see you around to chat. I will definetly post more often and do an update,

Narelle

PS. your little girl is adorable, what's her name?
