I am new to TTC and somewhat new to PCOS. I am 31, 5'3" and 120lbs. So I am having a hard time relating to other cysters because they are usually overweight and don't seem to be have the same experiences as me. Anyway, on CD 3-7, my doctor put me on 50mg Clomid. I saw him on CD 10. He did a u/s and advised me that there weren't any eggs developing and put me on Clomid 100mg for CD 10-14. I will then see him again on CD 17. My question is has anyone else heard of being on Clomid twice in the same month? I can't seem to find anyone who has heard of this, but I haven't checked here with you thin cysters. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
I don't have any input or advice, since I'm only on my 2nd round of Clomid, so by no means an expert...but I feel your pain about not having much information or advice for the thin ones of us...
Hi there, I'm a thinner cyster too, I'm 29, about 5'7 1/2" and 144 lbs. I don't find it hard to lose weight when I work out. I don't have any physical characteristics of PCOS, it's all in my hormone levels. My LH is high and I'm not ovulating on my own. I had to take Provera before starting Clomid and took 50mg on days 5-9, then Provera again then Clomid again but 100mg on days 5-9. Normally, Clomid can have effect for a few weeks, so I do find it unusual that your doctor would have you take more Clomid on day 10, sounds like he's trying to potentiate the effect but that can be a little too much I think. I am seeing a RE at a wonderful fertility clinic, he takes a very conservative approach, he really doesn't want to advance to injections, he said he might consider adding Metformin if the Clomid 100mg doesn't work on its own.
I concieved on met but just wanting to wish you GOOD LUCK! I hope you get that BFP soon!
As for hormones, my fsh was 1... seriously.. 1.. and lh was 3.. my hormone levels were obsurdly low and very very unusual for pcos.. usually LH should be well.. high..
No idea what levels that low mean though, however I did manage to fall pregnant on met despite this. So yeah.. never give up hope! you'll get there eventually!

Today I went for u/s after my second round of Clomid this month. The Clomid doesn't seem to be working. I am waiting to hear back from the doctor for blood results and he said we will go from there. Does anyone know what the next step after Clomid is? What else can I do to O?
Have you tried Met? Some doctors won't prescribe it for thin cysters, but its worked three times for me. You can look up info on the met threads and the ttc on met threads for research articles. It doesn't always work for everyone, but it quite inexpensive and other than the initial upset stomach side effects fairly easy to take. Its also been shown to decrease chances for miscarriage. I'm thin, and have never been tested for IR. Good luck!
HI Karen,
I too am thin and was sure that I didn't have PCOS because I didn't seem to fit the "profile." However, my ultrasound showed small cysts and my hormone levels were abnormal so that was that.
My RE is going to try me on a higher dose of Clomid for 5 days and see if I respond to it. If I don't, we will skip that med all together (apparently it can thin the endometrial lining with prolonged use) and go straight to fertility injections. I have been on Metformin for three months with no results but you never know, it could work for you. We would love to conceive soon but it looks like it will be a definite challenge. Lots of luck to you.
I was on metformin for 6 months and nothing happened and started clomid at 50 mg nothing, 100mg the next month both after provera and I ovulated and conceived. You can see my history in my signature. I am now 21 weeks preg with twins. I know it is hard, but try to be patient, clomid + met or just met can be successful......I would be happy to answer any questions.....
take care

Congratulations!!! Your story has given me hope. Just out of curiosity, what was your MD's reasoning for you to come off the Met? My RE has told me that I should probably plan on taking Met forever (even though it hasn't gotten me to ovulate). I wish you lots of luck with everything and thank you for your help!
I saw my doctor today after my third round of Clomid (150mg). He did a u/s and it showed a follicle developing, about 15mm. He did some bloodwork and wants to see me in 2 days to check for any progress. He told me that he may have to trigger ovulation since I do not ovulate on my own. Can anyone shed some light on this? How would he trigger the ovulation? The fact that the follicle is developing, is that a good sign? I think it is, but what am I looking for next? The Clomid wasn't working for the first 2 rounds and so I didn't have any hope that Clomid would work for me at all. Now it seems to me that maybe it could work for me. I still do not want to get my hopes up, but it's hard not to. Thanks ladies.
lauren- most, not all, obgyns and REs will have you wean off of the Met after you have completed your 1st trimester, because most likely the risk of miscarriage is over or extremely low. You stay on Met until then b/c it brings the % of miscarriage for a PCOSer down to that of the average woman. Sometimes, depending on your doc's philosophy he/she will keep you on Met to term, or if you have a history of repeated miscarriage you would stay on Met. After I deliver, I don't think I will go back on Met for awhile, b/c I am planning to breast feed and from what I have read, it is not recommended to take during that time. My obgyn said that I would go back on Met should I want to conceive again, otherwise I would go back on BCP to regulate hormone levels and to force cycles to keep my ovaries and uterus protected from unbalanced estrogen levels which could lead to cancer risk. Hope all that answers your question!
Karen-I believe that your doc is referring to a HCG trigger shot which is often given to boost or force the chance of an egg (follicle) to release from the ovaries (ovulation). It is very good that the follicle is developing, but it must be mature enough to release, and that is also what the shot will do. **If Trisha reads this, she knows more then I do about this, so she may correct me, as I never had a trigger shot.** If it isn't released it just becomes another cyst in your ovaries (which most PCOSers have). Good luck! Try to stay positive! Are you taking Met too? If not, it may be something to discuss with your doctor.
Hope this info helps! Again, feel free to ask away! I know that is is sooo hard to stay positive, and there were times I thought I would never get through the process and get pregnant. It took time and a lot of support from my husband, family and of course the ladies on these boards. NO ONE knows better what you are going through. They are an excellent resource even now as I chat with other thincysters who are expecting.

Yes, I stayed on met for my entire pregnancies and stopped when I gave birth. I was able to start it when my daughter was 6 months old (and still nursing) when I was trying to conceive my son. Depends on your doctor.
