Default Fish oil may be helpful in dealing with some of the root causes of PCOS

Fish Oil Helps PCOS.

We think that supplemental fish oil may be a hidden key to improving symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome, especially if you do not consume much fish.

Fish oil is known to reduce PCOS symptoms such as inflammation and depression. It also reduces triglycerides (blood fats), another common problem.

In addition, recent animal studies suggest that fish oil may be helpful in dealing with some of the root causes of polycystic ovarian syndrome. In rats fed a high saturated fat or a high sugar diet, fish oil appears to reduce or prevent leptin resistance and insulin resistance. Leptin resistance and insulin resistance play an important role in weight loss difficulties and they disturb overall hormonal balance.

The diet of most people is insufficient in the omega-3 fatty acids. Fortunately, they are abundant in fish oil. But there are a couple of problems with fish oils such as cod liver oil. First, it doesn't taste good. Second, they are very high in calories, even though they are mostly "good" calories.

You can get around these problems by consuming highly concentrated fish oil in capsules. These capsules retain the two most important ingredients of fish oil: EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) -- and relative to the EPA and DHA content, they only have a fraction of the calories you will find in cod liver oil. Another advantage of fish oil concentrate capsules is that you don't have a fishy taste in your mouth.

How much do you take of these in capsules?

Capsules vary in amounts, but the general rule (assuming it's safe for you to take fish oil) is one teaspoon for every 50 lbs of body weight.

I take fish oil by the teaspoon. It has virtually no taste. Cod Liver oil was kind of gross. (palatable, but still gross.)

Would it be possible for you to supplement with other sources of Omega 3's?

I take 1000mg per day. That's one capsule. I think I probably need to up that dose a bit but I'm also taking Evening Primrose Oil - so I'm getting a lot of oil capsules!

I have found it's definitely helping my skin, and my eczema/psoriasis, if nothing else. Not sure about the rest of my PCOS symptoms though - probably not taking enough.

I take flax oil capsules (3000mg a day), but I think I'll go back to hemp oil. My nails aren't as strong as they were when I was taking the hemp. It's a balanced mix of omega 3's, 6's and 9's.

I would much prefer flax or hemp to fish oil if it can get the same results- anyone know the difference?

Default Fish oil and Calcium absorption

I remember reading somewhere that taking fhish oil alsong with Calcium supplements interferes witrh the Calicum absorption. So, don't take them at the same time of the day. Probably alternate -- Calcium in the afternoon ans fish oil in the night or soemthing like that.

Default I agree - Omega3 is great

I take greensplus Omega3 softgels, 2 a day. Also a really good multivitamin. I find that the Omega3 helps with the bloating & constipation & moodswings.

Now I eat fish maybe 2-3 times a week. I have omega3 in the hempmilk I drink, and in a few of the cereals I eat.

But they may not be enough...hmmmm

Thanks Kat...it's food for thought
