Default Flax in pregnancy

Does anyone know if flax is ok to use while pregnant? In oil form, as a supplement? What about ground up and cooked in stuff? Does cooking destroy the phytoestrogens but keep the omega-3s/ALA?

Probably best to ask your doctor about the pregnancy part.

I know you can't cook with flax 'oil'...not sure about the meal.

Thanks, KatCarney. I will add it to my list of 7695 questions for the doctor.

I would definitely ask your doctor. I've read that it can cause problems. Try doing a google search for "flax during pregnancy". A few articles will come up...I believe Mayo clinic had did a study on it even.

Congrats on your BFP!!!

I read that flax is not to be use during because it will cause change with your hormones.

I've stopped everything that I was taking as a supplement/treatment prior to the pregnancy (cinnamon extract, flax oil, fish oil, massaging castor oil externally, fertility tea w Vitex and/or Dong Quai which I took from CD5-14). I switched from Rainbow Light 6 a day (high levels of Vitamin A-per my doctor) after I became pregnant. I only take my Prescription prenatal vitamins w DHA and try to eat healthy.

I was also prescribed vitamins with DHA after I posted that, and am now less concerned about flax. I was worried bc i wanted to get enough DHA but it seems that if you eat enough fish to get enough DHA, you are exposing your fetus to mercury. Sigh. Hopefully vitamins will do the job without hormone issues with flax and mercury issues with fish.
