Default flutamide for hair loss anyone????

Hi!

I've been taking cyproterone and spiro for the last 3 years and although I think it did sort of help my hair loss I have a real problem taking these anti-androgens with estrogen. I have not had a period since stopping birth control three years ago and started taking cypro and spiro pretty much right after stopping BCPs....so for the last year I have been taking estrogen replacement which is making my hair fall out even more!!!

Anyway, I saw my endo last week and asked if I could try flutamide just incase cypro and spiro was stopping my periods and giving my low estrogen (both cypro and spiro have progesterone activity and can stop your ovaries from functioning via some sort of feedback from the pituitary gland... or something like that). My endo agreed and put me on 250mg flutamide twice a day; I started 3 days ago and have noticed no change (I stopped everything else). My skin is slightly oilier but no acne. I am losing the same numbers of hairs in the shower (roughly 100) but the ratio between terminal and miniturized hairs have changed - I am losing a lot more miniturized hairs and less terminal hairs when I blow dry. I have about 25% of my original hair left and I am super thin on top of my head... I even have a patch that is almost bald....

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with flutamide and did it help your hair loss?

thanks...

3 days isn't really enough time to notice a dramatic change.

By the way, right now i am on androcur which got me rid of unwanted hair and stopped my hairloss ...i was on it a first time and i even had plenty of regrowth but for some reason this time...the regrowth is a mere trifle...
would i benefit from switching to flutamide or are they as powerful???both are used in men to act on the prostate....
i still hope to get regrowth now that after two years my ferrintine is just back to decent figure...but..sigh...

Thanks Kat for all the info... been reading for hours

When I first took Androcur/cyproterone I was going through a dread shed from stopping BCPs.... I lost 50% of my hair right there. Androcur managed to grow some of my hair back but never really stop the shedding - I just had a lot of regrowth on it and my hair was either the same thickness or thinning very very slowly... so I guess it does help to some extent... I was taking androcur everyday with no bcps, anywhere from 100mg to 200mgs and although it did help with all my symptoms I gained a ton of weight and my skin was never perfectly clear even on such a high dose...

My doctor didn't prescribe any birth control cause I can't tolerant them. My hair falls out worse with the low dose ones (mircette, alesse) and I get really bad acne with the higher estrogen ones (diane-35, yasmin, Marvelon)....

I am now taking metformin and flutamide and hoping my periods will come back.

scaredsally: I have also been really really tired since taking flutamide...the first two days were bad but today has been a bit better. I'm also getting a lot of hot flashes and my appetite has decreased. I am hoping it will work with regrowth but I need a lot of help because my hair loss is BAD... I wear a topper sometimes and if I don't wear a topper, I have to wear lots of dermmatch and toppik to cover up the bald spots... I don't know if flutamide will grow back THAT much hair even if it works... I hate hair loss... it's the worse symptom I think...
