I'm wondering if someone might be able to help me. Its kind of a random question and has nothing to do with PCOS. I'm moving across Canada from Ontario to Yellowknife NWT in a week and a half and i'm flying for the first time. I'm really concerned about airport procedures and having your id checked. I wish I had of thought about this earlier but I didn't.
Basically I want to know if you have to show them photo id and not just your birth certificate. My photo ID picture does not look anything like me anymore. I've lost quite a bit of weight and anyone who sees the picture has trouble believing that it is me. I've also recently been having problems getting into bars, and the other night a casino. I really should have had it changed before but its only been recently that its been a problem. There is no way I can get it changed before I have to leave. Any advice and experiences on how they go about doing this would be great!
Hi Mary Beth,
When I last worked with the airlines we did require photo id as well as a birth certificate.
Although I don't recall there being a problem with photo id. People change and we were taught to expect that most people don't look like their picture.
I used to frequant the U.S. alot and I would intentionally use my passport to mess them up. I didn't look anything like my picture. I was young, skinny, no make up with dark hair yet here I was holding my passport with short straight blond hair, fat and lots of make up. The most they would do is ask if it was really me and I would normally respond that it was amazing what a small bottle of peroxide would do. That would be it and I would be on my way.
I'm sure that you have nothing to worry about especially since the flight is within Canada.
Good Luck with move.
Thanks so much for the advice and reassurance. I have myself way more worked up over the flight and id check than I do about the move itself and it probably should be the other way around. It definitely helps to know someone has been in a similar situation and had no problems.
You should be fine...if anything, they can put your Birth Certificate together with your ID and check the name, etc. Usually they are satisfied with that.
I've had that kind of ID as well...couldn't get into a few places because they would not believe that it was me.

Thank you. It was so embarassing having my ID refused at the casino. I *felt* like I was trying to sneak in even though I am 23! I've had several people tell me now that it shouldn't be a problem at the airport. It definitely takes some stress out of it although I'm still a bit worried. I'll probably stay worried until I get to Yellowknife, 3 planes and 3 airports. Too much for a girl who has never flown before!
