Follicle size

A little background - this is my last attempt with clomid. I have been doing it for over 6 months off and on and it has never seemed to work - never ovulated or produced anything of considerable size to ovulate. But in an effort to give it one last go with my OBGYN instead of seeing a specialist this month I did the 150mg of clomid. I just returned from a u/s appt to see how/if anything is growing and she said that there are 3 small ones on my right side and 2 on my left. She said one on the left is measuring 1cm. Today is CD 12 for me. I took clomid cd4-8. Is this a normal size? How big does it need to be? She is big believer that if you don't ovulate by CD 14 then you aren't and I just don't see it growing big enough in such a short time. But she says she is hopeful and to think positive thoughts. (UGH - if it were only that easy!)

Any ideas? Any opinions? Anyone else had a similar situation - how did it turn out?

I just don't want to get my hopes up again. I am ready to make an appointment with an RE and planned to call after this appointment. I just don't know what I should do.

We are definitely going to do OPK and BD until the end of the cycle - just in case!

my dr's always wanted to see the follies 18mm or greater before you O. When I was doing the trigger shots with the clomid they would wait until the follies got to be 18, 20 or better, then shot, then bd & IUI, then 2ww. I usually see a follie around 12mm around day 14 and by day 18 it will have grown to 20mm or better and they want me to trigger/iui/bd. Usually by day 22 I have O'd.

You have given clomid a shot, but it seems like it may not be your drug of choice. The folicles could get big enough, so you are smart to bd regularly just in case (I concieved dd on cd 22, no clomid, though), but if I were you, I'd go ahead and make an appointment with an RE. The good ones can take a few weeks or a month to get into. In the event that you did wind up pg, you can always cancel the appointment and some lucky duck will get your spot.

Great question because my friend is having IUI very soon, and she measured at 16mm earlier this week. She is getting an IUI done on Friday or Saturday, when it hits 20mm. The Dr said it usually grows 1mm per day and at 20mm is when you do IUI or possibly trigger shot. You would likely be O'ing in around 10 days from now.

It's a bit concerning that she only believes you will ovulate by cd14 or not at all. Last month I went in on cd17 and had 2 tiny follicles (didn't ask size, but they were tiny.) Went back cd 24 and those two follicles were big and ready to ovulate at 24mm and 33mm. I ovulated 2 days later on cd26 and this was confirmed by an OPK, a progestrone test, and AF exactly 14 days later. Don't give up yet, it could be way too soon.

I had an u/s on CD13 and had a follie measuring 11.5 mm. They had me come back on CD16 and that follie had grown to 21 mm. So it is possible that your follie will still grow! I had taken 100 mg of clomid for 7 days (days 3-9). Good luck!

Reading that does give me some hope. She wants me to go back in next Thursday for bloodwork but I may call there and see if she will do another u/s to see what's going on. I though I ovulated last month but later - CD 19 or 20 but her bloodwork on CD21 said I didn't. And AF never came so I guess I didn't. I am cautiously hopeful and doing everything I can just in case it works but I have also made an appointment with an RE for the first week of June just incase it doesn't work.

Hey... I just wanted to let you know that we have never Ovulated by cd14 - EVER. When we got pg with DD, O was on cd17. Clomid makes you O late too. I just think it's crazy that your dr says that if you don't O by cd14 you wont.

Hi All

I am new in here. I didn't know anythings about fertility and infertility.
I really want to have a kids. I am 45 years old woman, I am 28 days regular period. I just got married last July 2007. We are starting to conceive on December 2007. All my test lab was normal. I got frustated because the infertility treatment is so expensive. I don't have money. My insurance didn't cover it.

I am trying to take accupuncture. It has been 2 months. I just read about the article follicle. I check my ultrasound results:
left ovary: one irregular follicle, likely s/p recent ovulation, total 1,77 x 2.4 cm, no other antral follicle seen.

right ovary: small and quiet at 2,81 x 0.94 cm

Could anyone help me? My doctor prescribed me clomid 50 mg for days 5. My periods starts on July 24, 2008, So I should take my clomid on July 28, 2008 already.

Please respond.. I am really appreciated.

Hi Karrie, for two months I was on 50 mg and then 100 mg for five days and both months on CD 13-14 I had a number of small follicles, but nothing bigger than 12. My RE said that by the time the follicle grows to the right size, it could ovulate, but she wouldn't do a IUI because she said it was not an optimal situation. She told me that follicles shouldn't need more than 14 days to grow, and if they grow later, you can still ovulate but the eggs aren't in an deal situation.

Hope this helps! Hang in there! Oh and just fyi, if they dont grow big enough today, maybe ask your RE about clomid 150 mg for 10 days cds2-12......I had 6 big follicles last month on day 13!
