Unhappy Food Poisoning!

Hi ladies. I was wondering if any of you had any tips on dealing with food poisoning? Right now I'm extremely sick...I can't stop vomiting and I have bad diarrhea. I don't think I've ever felt so sick in my entire life!! I feel dehydrated but whenever I drink anything (even water) I almost immediately throw it up. I don't even know what I could have possibly eaten! Does this sound like food poisoning? Any suggestions on how to make my life not miserable right now would be greatly appreciated!!

Could be food poisoning or it could be a stomach/intestinal virus. It could be something else too, as there can be several problems (hepatitis, E. coli, etc.) leading to vomiting and diarrhea. Either way, you need to stay hydrated. Try to drink something, even if you do throw it up. If it helps, drink something that doesn't taste as bad coming up, like tea (tastes the same coming up as it does going down). If vomiting continues for more than 24 hours, heavily, or you begin to feel too weak from dehyradtion, go to the doctor. If you begin to have blood in stool or vomit, go to ER immediately.

I agree with the previous post. Keep hydrated. If you become dehydrated, you may keep throwing up. It is a vicious cycle. I know when I had a stomache virus last year I kept drinking water, I eventually kept more in than what was coming out.

Good Luck, hope you feel better,
Lana

Definitely, the best thing to do is stay hydrated. Lots of water and even gatoraide to raise your electrolytes. However, if is persists for more than 24 hours, you may want to go see or call a doctor.

I agree that you need to stay hydrated, but you only need to drink 15ml (a tablespoon) of water every 15 minutes. You don't have to try and drink a whole glass of water in one sitting.

For me and many others, plain water makes vomiting worse. I have to stick with regular Coke or Sprite(not diet). They really help settle my stomach the best. Once your stomach is empty and you are dry heaving, it is okay to try to stop the vomiting cycle with some kind of otc med. I can't remember the name of the one I have used in the past. It is ***not*** okay to stop the diarrhea though with medication. You need to let it run its course to get the bad stuff out of your system.

Get better soon!!! My family and I are prone to stomach bugs, so I know how you feel.
