Unhappy Forgetting To Take Levothyroxine 25MCG

I haven't been taking my thyroid medince for a really
long time since for like a month or more ( bad I know) :*( :*( :*(
& they checked my thyroid at the begging of the
month & they called me today & said that I should
be taking 2 thyroid pills now but I haven't even been
taking one :*( I don't want to tell them that I haven't been taking because I feel really bad about it plus I don't have an appointment with them coming up,I just want to start taking it again like one pill a day & than maybe switch to 2 pills a day
Their going to re test my thyroid in 6 weeks.
What ALL should I do now?
What ALL would u do?

Please Reply Someone!!!

It doesn't really matter now that you have not been taking it --- what matters is your level is A number and you need B dosage to get back to C level. They will retest your level in 6 weeks to see what you are doing in response to the dosage they gave you. It takes a little while for it to build up in your body anyways. Take the pills like they told you because untreated hypothyroidism can set you up for a lot of health issues in the future (of near future). It's really important!

I would be honest with the drs and let them know that I haven't taken the meds as perscribed. Maybe the change to two pills was done to provide care for you, but based on incorrect information---in that they may think you were taking the one all along and now need an adjustment. The two pill deal is new to me..but I'm not a dr!

Sweet, this is one case where you really need to be upfront with the dr. who prescribed the thyroid med. I agree with the previous poster who said it takes a while to build up the levothyroxine in the system, but a dr. can tell you the best way to raise the level safely. You don't want to put yourself in any danger by messing with dosages (too much or too little).

My endo told me that the t4 you take today isn't used in the body til about 3 weeks later, due to the little-by-little conversion (to t3) that your body does to make it into the active form. At least this is my simple understanding of it. By the same token, you could be without t4 thyroid med for a couple weeks before you would notice much difference. Drs. work hard to keep the levels in a narrow range, and if you send too much t4 into your system at once it could possibly cause hyper symptoms within a few weeks' time. Hope you feel better soon.
