Default Formula?

So, I'm pg with twins and we are planning on both breastfeeding and formula feeding. My question is which formula do I use? I'm clueless!!!! I'm guessing our babies will be smaller, maybe preemies, and I have no idea if that makes a difference or not.
There are so many different kinds, can anyone give me some advice?

I think that if they are tiny then your pedi will want them on a high fat formula. If not and they can go on any then I would start with the regular milk based of whatever brand name company you want to go with, go with the ones that give you the coupons in the mail and that should help you out with the cost a little.

You'll figure it out. My twins were born at 36w5d, and we started them on similac, then put my daughter on gentlease because her tummy was so gassy, then later moved my son onto gentlease as well, because we surmised that the dairy proteins in the regular formula were making his eczema worse. I also combo fed, pumping and bf'ing as much as I could and making up the rest with the formula.

If your babies are super preemie, then the hospital will probably have you use a special formula. If they make it to say, oh, 34 weeks or later (depending on size and maturity), then you'll just do a trial and error of various formulas you can find at any store.

Congrats!!!

Hospitals are full of a bunch of different formulas all for different issues. I'm sure they will recommend and give you samples of a formula that will suit your babies. If they tolerate it well, you can continue it at home. If not, the hospital should give you some other options or you can ask your pediatrician.
We breastfed 90% of the time, but we supplemented w/ Enfamil Lipil and DD did well with it, but it just happened to be what the hospital gave us and what we had samples of.

Good luck!

W/DD #1 she was born at 30 weeks, we were told to use neosure (high calorie formula by Similac) It was sooooooo expensive! I couldn't wait to get her off it! She was also suppd with BM but unfortunatley after 5.5 months of agonizing pumping and no supply I quit. (She never latched mainly due to issues in the NICU with feeding tubes, suck swallow breath combo etc)

Like previous posters said.. there are really three main formulas out there, Similac, Enfamil, and Good Start.. (Along with a lot of other off brands that work for a lot of gals on here)

I was told they will tell you what kinda you will need. ALSO if you use a basic brand or even with lipid or iorn. Costco, BJ's Sam's club is all the same brand as Enfamil simlac and goodstart. FDA regulated all of them. Save money and get more.. My OBGYN told me to try to do that.

My son would ONLY drink Enfamil Lipil. I didn't blame him. All the other ones we tried had a slightly grainy texture when dry and smelled....different. The Enfamil was very smooth and just...looked better. He had some trouble feeding at first but that one seemed to be a winner cause he took to it right away. That said, he wasn't on any special diet or anything so you might have to use something different.

I switched to formula around 6-7 months with dd and we used Nestle Good Start. She tolerated it well and we never had any problems with it. Not sure if it was because she was older and already on solids here and there but it worked fine for her.
