Question Foster classes

I just called the lady at the "foster care" place. She is sending out a packet. She said that there will be a ten week class that starts in January.
What is this class about?

Sandy - it looks like you had a rough day yesterday and I am sorry for whatever happened.

We took foster care/adoption classes back over the summer and they were about attachment, effects of abuse, navigating the system, child development, etc...all really good information...especially if this is your first child. I hope you enjoy them and get through the process quickly. It is really frustrating at times, at least it has been for us, but it's all worth it!

Not sure if my next child is coming through me or someone else - but he or SHE is out there.

Sandy - We are going through the same thing now and the classes are very interesting, basically everything acrosaz mentioned. Basically a parenting course but a little more intense since alot of the children have emotional issues.
Our last class is this Saturday!
Goodluck to you!

I am also a licensed foster parent and the classes we attended licensed us for CPR/First Aid...we did a class on restraining an out of control child...a class just on all the paperwork we will have to do and then what our state calls PRIDE classes. Those were basically classes about different types of abuse, attachment, medications etc. It is a ton of information to take in.

I won't lie to you it took us around 18 months from start to finish (first signing up to being licensed). It is not always easy and at times you may want to throw in the towel but in the end I think it is worth it. We got a call we are picked to be parents and will be meeting the children we will probably adopt within the next couple of weeks.

Dealing with CPS can be the worse part. We feel like they misguided us on our first placement and that ended up being a nightmare. I would definately sign on with an agency and not go directly through CPS. The workers at the agency are more of an advocate for you.
