Hi. I'm new to this forum but I have found a fantastic book that Aussie cysters may or may know about. It's called The Low GI Guide to Managing PCOS by Prof Jennie Brand-Miller, Prof Nadir R. Farid and Kate Marsh. I got it for around $14 from Big W of all places. It explains what PCOS is, how it affects your body and it explains how a Low GI based diet helps you manage symptoms of PCOS.
I thought it was a great read as it helped me to understand what PCOS is and how I can manage it through exercise and diet. It's easy reading and written in very simple terms. If anyone else has read it, let me know what you think.
I have that book - although not for long - I've got it up for sale on TradeMe (New Zealand's 'ebay')
I've read it so many times it was time for me to pass it on.

I like to use it for menu planning too! I just love how it is so easy to understand. I'm newly diagnosed with PCOS and I am the type of person that needs to know why and how this happens and what can be done to help it. I find this book does exactly that and uses language that is easy to understand and you don't need a degree to understand lol!!
Do you know of any other books or websites about PCOS that are easy to access? I'm finding that there aren't a lot of books about PCOS where I live.

I really like Managing PCOS for Dummies (its like all the other 'for dummies' books)
Have a look around your local library, if they don't have them - request them! You won't be the only woman who will get good use out of them

I agree, it is a top book! I had to get my local book shop to order it in for me, I think it cost me about $20 or $30. I got a recommendation for it from a diabetes educator when I was diagnosed with insulin resistance & pcos earlier this year. It helped explain a lot of what was going on with my body and how my diet and exercise could help things.

I found another good book. I looked for books at my local library and they had more books on Endometriosis than PCOS. I had this transferred from another branch.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome by Dr John Eden
'A woman's guide to identifying and managing PCOS', this new book covers:
What causes PCOS?
How do hormones work?
How is PCOS different from simply having polycystic ovaries?
If I have PCOS, am I infertile?
How can I clear up my acne, lose weight or reduce unwanted hair?
What is the connection between PCOS and diabetes?
John Eden is Associate Professor in Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of New South Wales and Director of the Sydney Menopause Centre, the Natural Therapy Unit and the Barbara Gross Research Unit, Royal Hospital for Women, Sydney.
