Default found out my dad has alzheimer's

we just found out today that my dad is worse off than we thought. The doctor said he has never seen it in someone as young as him. My father is only 53, and they said that the alzhiemer's that he has is really aggressive. So now my mom and dad are starting to save back money and find a burial plot so things are ready for when his health starts to get really bad

shelly,

I just wanted to say I am so sorry about your dad. Be sure to spend as much time as you can with him! I lost my father when I was 21 and there are so many things I wish I had done and said to him before he died.

OT now.... I am also a neopet addict

Shelly, I am so sorry for your news. It seems so cruel when someone so young is diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It is good that you spend as much time with him as you can; it will be a great support for your mother, too. I nursed patients with Alzheimer's for quite a few years and the youngest patient I had was diagnosed at 62. It is something that takes a toll on the family perhaps more than the sufferer. Sending you lots of hugs and wishes for you to stay strong and positive.

Shelly,
I am sorry about your dad. I lost my grandma to Alzheimer's about 5 years ago. I still miss her so much-- she was my hero! I'm glad you are close to your dad and spend lots of time with him. I took my boys to visit my grandma as often as I could. Even when she became bedridden she would have me put them on her bed (they were babies at the time) at let them crawl around! We had wonderful in-home nurses who took care of her. I'm glad that despite all that Alzheimer's took from us, my grandma kept her usual personality, even though she didn't know who we were some of the time. (She would always say,"those kids are so nice!" She didn't know they were her own great-grandkids but she loved them anyway.) We will remember your family in our prayers! I hope one day a cure or prevention is found for this disease.
Jenny

Just want to send a hug your way - you'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong and always remember the good times when things start to get really tough.

I am starting over. I have been working on my PCOS since 2002 - but never tried to take care of me for me (I was always focused on trying to have a baby). I have given up that dream and am focusing on me now.
