Default Frequent AF and increasing abdominal girth

Hello,

I am getting pretty discouraged about all this pcos stuff. AF has been visiting about every other week, sometimes light with a short duration and sometimes with a normal duration, like 5-8 days. Also with this I have been gaining weight and my abdomen is getting larger along with my face. I exercise regularly and watch what I eat, although I am not on a diet. BTW my dh had a vasectomy, so pregnancy is unlikely.

I think my hormones are all wacked out. I was on Ovcon 35 for a while and was having problems with bleeding between periods. The Dr. put me on Yasmin, and I stopped taking it because I wanted to eat all the time. So now I am bleeding even more. Has anyone had a problem like this before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks cysters for being there.

I suffered from this problem also - for years. Finally, I got a good combination of metformin - 2000 mgs, and Yasmin. Together I have reduced the bleeding to a few days mid cycle as opposed to a few days a week, all month long. (Both heavy and light - never quite knew what I'd "get!") Give the Yasmin and metformin a try if you can. I had a rocky start to both, but my doctor asked me to try it for 6 months - I had terrible cramps, MORE bleeding at first....I was thinking she was nuts, frankly - but by the 5th month things calmed down and I actually went 2 full weeks with any bleeding...a major celebration for me! HaHa!

I have the large stomach too....Yasmin is pretty good for bloating because it contains a water retention component - the first week on it each month I lose 3-4 pounds in water weight! (Of course I pee all night long, but hey - I'll take it!) It is touted as the pill that can help you lose weight. But I agree there are some yucky side effects to get through first. Gotta give it time - See about the metformin if you can....at 1500 mgs, I found I bled less - doctor upped the dose to 2000 mgs, and things improved. Would probably improve more if I increased to 2500, but I'm hesitant - gonna have the lapband surgery for weight loss instead! :-) Best of luck to you - let me know if you have any other questions...be happy to chat! Amy

Hi Amy,

thank you for replying. Yasmin is known for it's weight loss properties, I've never heard that before. I thought it made me feel like eating the walls, or maybe it was something esle, but I haven't felt that way since I stopped it. When you started Yasmin in the beginning did you have an increase in appetite and then things calmed down or did your appetite decrease or stay the same in the beginning? I really want to give it another try, but I'm worried about getting bigger, it has been a great concern for me, and I have been stressed about my weight alot lately. Thanks so much for your advice. Keep it coming.
