Question fresh blood.......yikes

Ok ladies here I go again;

For those of you who don't know I had a miscariage two and a half weeks ago (actually I was induced because the baby had passed) I was 19 weeks 3 days. Well I was told I wouldn't have breast milk (lies lies lies) I still have breast milk and usually leak every morning after my shower. Well this is not my big concern. I was also told I would only have a flow for about a week. Well I wasn't concerned because even though it was taking longer it was really tapering. Well not as of last night. I have been having fresh bright red blood on and off. It seems to increase when my activity increses, like when I first got up their was hardly any but as I became more active it really increased. I called the obgyn that performed the induction but I haven't heard back yet. Just a note though I did start back on my met yesterday and was wondering if that had anything to do with it. I know I don't have an infection because I just finished antibiotics and the doctor did a swab and it came back fine.

Do you think I should worry. How long should I wait before I call again or go to the hospital?

Thanks again
cysterls

Anybody??? The doctor called and left a message but he thought it was just a period. I never had a period like this. It happened again today. Woke up with nothing, continued to be nothing but then I went and did some housework and within about 20 minutes I bled right through my clothes. Yikes. Any advice. Should I be worried? Will this affect my fertility??

That would scare me. If I were in your situation, I'd go to the doctor and have him check me out. After I had my miscarriage and D&C (both occurred on the same day), I only bled for about a week. I was advised that I could do anything I wanted other than sex (for about 2 weeks).

First I am so sorry for your loss. I have only had early losses, and cannot imagine how my cysters make it though a later loss, when early losses made me crumble.

Big (((((((((Hugs)))))))))))

It would scare me too. I have a condition called Abnormal Uterine Bleeding. Maybe you should be checked for it. I woud bleed, then start bleeding really heavy again for no reason. It is nothing "real" serious, but it could be a sign of something serious. I would definantly demand to see the dr and get an exam. GL and keep us posted on what you find out.

Cysterls, who told you you'd only bleed for a week? I bled for four and a half weeks after Rivi was born. It would start and stop, as you said yours is. If you're feeling okay otherwise, I'd just make an appointment to be seen. I know that at 19 weeks, your recovery is closer to fullterm than a first-trimester loss (and even those last more than a week, right?).

And, your first period WILL be unlike anything you've ever seen. Mine was really mucousy (sorry, TMI), and for the first time in my life, the cramps were bad enough to put me in bed and leave me there for two days. I never had cramps before Rivi, and now they're awful every month. So your body (like your mind and soul) has gone through permanent changes.

I agree with Viv, it takes a few weeks. I've had two 2nd trimester losses, and with my 2nd one the bleeding lasted more than a week. It would seem like it was over than start again. I also passed some serious clots, and I had horrible afterpains. My first AF was very strange. IF things don't seem right to you then make an appt. and have your Dr. check you out.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

Ok so here is the news.

Both my Nurse practioner and my OBGYN thought the bleeding was normal and not to worry but by Sunday I really didn't think it was right (intuition I guess) SO I went to the ER and the very nice doctor their did some bloodwork and an exam and told me everything looked fine but to be sure he would to an ultrasound and I would be called the next morning to come in for one. Well the next morning(monday) I did not hear so I called ultrasound and they said they never got my report and I should call the ER well the ER didn't have one either so they asked another department who finally decided to call the ER doctor I saw at home and he said OH ya if she still wants one, I just forgot. Well after a lot of struggle the ultrasound people finally got the report and I was booked for an ultrasound (Tuesday at 4 pm) I went in for the ultrasound thinking I had nothing to worry about because I had been through it all and the nurse practioner said their was nothing left. SOOOO I could tell immediatley that their was somthing their because the tech asked if he could to an internal ultrasound ( I have had them many times) but I asked him why he couldn't tell me why (he said he is not insured to tell me anything) So they did the internal and all he could tell me is go straight to the ER. I waited for two or more hours just to have a doctor tell me their was 'products of birth' left inside of me and to come back tommorow morning (that would be today) and have my OBGYN paged.

So this morning I went to the hospital and they tell me I am having a D & C and get ready for the OR I said NO I wanted to talk to the doctor first. THey didn't even want to call my Dr. but they did and he came down and read the report and told me it was up to me what to do. They could do a D & C. with the risks of infection or causing a hole in my uterus or they could leave whatever it is their (3 inches in diameter) and hope it comes out on its own in time. It is up to me. To tell you the truth both really scare me and everytime I see a doctor in the city something has been messed up completly.

Do you have any advice on what to do? I am so worried. I see the OBGYN on Friday morning.

thanks cysterls.

((cysterls))

I've never had a D&C. I'm sure some of the others can pipe in. I can tell you that a D&C is a risk factor for IC, so make sure the doc checks your cervix a LOT when you're pregnant again. With me, it always comes back to IC.

I'm sorry that you've got to make this decision while you're grieving so hard.

I had to decide between a natural m/c and a D&C. I went with the D&C because I bled for a week and it was just killing me. Luckily there were no complications. I was also told that complications are very, very rare, but they are still required to tell you about them.

I had the choice too. I chose the D&C because that was what was right for me. I could stand the thought of having to see it come out at home. I have not had any complications from it so far. It's basically a decision that you will have to make yourself since only you know what you can handle and what is right for you. I am sorry that you have been through so much. (((hugs)))

will whatever is left eventually pass on it's own? It has been 3 weeks since the induction and my cervix is closed. I just don't want to be put under for a D & C. It scares me.

Cysterls - I don't know if it would pass or not; that's something to ask the doc. There is a concern that whatever sticks around could cause an infection. I am sorry I don't know more about this.

There is a pill that you can take that will help you pass what is left. I do not know what it is called, but I have read several cysters talk about having used it. Maybe someone could pipe in here and tell you what it is called.

I think it might be Cytotec? Or Cytotech? Other cysters have gotten shots of metotrexate, but that might be just for ectopics.
