So there is something hexed about Friday the 13th. That was the day I was dx. I've been reading what I can about everything, but i'm still very scared. I'm getting married in 3 weeks, and we planned on ttc right after. This worries me. My fiance and I have ttc in the past, but nothing happened. I didn't think any of it, b/c I didn't know I had anything wrong with me. Anyway, I've always dreamed of having a family.... I grew up with 3 bros and 1 sis. I know that there are meds for this type of thing. I'm also worried about multiples. Twins already run in my family, and his family (they're all over the place!) So does that mean my chances are even higher for multiples?? My doc wants me to try metformin first to see if that helps to regulate me which would be great. But I heard about Metformin's side affects, and let me tell you I'm not looking foward to being in the bathroom all the time. So any advice anybody can give me about taking Metformin or anything else I would appreciate it.
I've taken Met. before. The side effects actually weren't that bad for me. The one medicine I had to stay away from was avadia... I lost so much hair and got so sick from that one.
I am sorry. I am newer to this also so I can not offer you much advice. I have never been on metformin.
I just wanted to say best wishes on your upcoming wedding.
I am new, too; I was diagnosed at the end of June. I've been on metformin since and have just worked my way up to 1500mg/day. I didn't read anything about side effects beforehand, but maybe that's just as well! I haven't had any side effects from it at all. I am supposed to take it before dinner and if I take it and don't eat pretty soon after, I get a little nauseous, but that's it. I don't have to go to the bathroom any more than usual.
Hi, I too just found out, my history is that we have ttc for 2 years now, my old doc wasn't trying very hard to figure it out, changed docs and found out I had PCOS, I have been on metformin for a week now, first week is a low dosage, Wednesday I need to up it. So far, so good, you do have to alter your eating...if you eat high fat high sugar foods you will be sick...I had the runs the first 2 days but nothing I couldn't handle, other then that, no bad side effects other then I am not hungry, which is nice for a change.
My advice, get Met RX. It's much easier on your tummy then the regular Met. It's not so bad. My side effects went away for the most part. I'm expecting baby #2 and pretty much owe it to the Met! Just talk to your Dr. about your worries. They should walk you through everything. They have a different medicine out now. It's just another brand of Met, but it isn't suppose to have any side effects. It's a little more expensive, but if it works, it's worth it! Good Luck!

Hi! I was just dx too, on 7/5, and have been on Metformin for a week and a half now. My dr started me at 500mg the first week, 1000 this week and working up to 2000 over the next couple of weeks. I was very nervous to start it after reading the side effects, but so far I haven't had any. I get full faster than normal, but that is about it. I always make sure to take the pill in the middle of a meal (not sure if that helps or not).
Some people seem to have real bad side effects, but there is a thread on here about Metformin success stories (Metformin Success Stories). These might help make you feel a little less nervous about starting a new med. I know they helped me a lot!
Good luck!
Hello and welcome to SC, I was on Met for almost a year but I couldnt handle the se, then I was put on avandia but due to all that has come out in the news about risk in heart problems I wanted to staop taking that also!! I am now seeing an RE who is going to start me on glumetza in August which is the extended release of Met I am hoping I can handle that better!!! My best advice is to keep your head up and never give up, plus you have found a great support system here!!! Also you may want to check into seeing an RE if you plan on TTC I have found out more from my RE in 1 month then I did from 3 obyns in 4 years. Good Luck!!!
