Yah, the sugars from fruit is sweet enough, there really is no need for Splenda.
Question: Does the pectin from the apple contain fibre ?

Not sure about the pectin/fibre question.. I would suspect some of the fiber is in the skin, which is why the fruit is better than applesauce or juice.

Another thing of note, the raw fruit (somehow) has different (and I think better) sugars than cooked/processed... not sure exactly, but under the IR diet a raw apple is considered balanced (enough protein to balance the carb) wherease cooked/processed apple is considered just "high carb" -- I forget the discussion about the different kinds of sugar (all ending in 'ose').

So in general I think a good rule of thumb is to stick to the raw fruit as much as possible.

Of course given the choice of something very carby (say a cookie or brownie) or a serving of processed fruit (say applesauce), go for the fruit in whatever form. ;-)

Ooh, applesauce......I haven't eaten that in ages.
I used to love applesauce.....I guess I'm going to have to experiment and see what doesn't make my blood sugar go nuts.

I'd love a good muffin recipe with some fruit in there, maybe if I sneak it in it won't bother me as much.

Do you buy store bought applesauce or make it yourself ?
Also, does anyone use apple cider vinegar ?

I use store-bought unsweetened (or is it no sugar added) applesauce. It's basically just apples and plenty sweet already (IMHO).

I've stopped eating fruit altogether because it just stimulates my appetite too much.
Do we 'really' need fruit in our diet ??

I don't avoid fruit, except for the ones I don't like the taste of. Fruits and veggies are a much needed part of a healthy diet. I do avoid potatoes, and that's it for the veggies, the rest I eat if I like the taste. Instead I avoid white flour, white sugar and rice.

Fruits contain antioixidents and phytochemicals not found in other foods. Each (natural, whole) food is unique and provides us with nutrition. To elminate all fruits from our diets would be depriving our bodies of a valuable source of nutrition.

Right now I have a strawberry, raspbery, red grape and peach fruit salad in the fridge. Yum!

Have you tried eating it with other foods. Other than apples and pears I usually don't eat fruit alone.

Ex for breakfast oatmeal with sliced strawberries or blueberries
Lunch I'll have salad, fruit, etc

When I want something sweet I prefer to have sliced strawberries, melons to cut the sugar craving

I have tried it in other things, but it seems like even in small amounts hidden in for example a veggie smoothie or something, (my own creation of a bunch of veggies) it just seems to stimulate my hunger no matter what.

I have lost 20 pounds so far and I don't eat any fruit at all, but sometimes I feel so bogged down, I just want something fresh, not nuts and protein all the time as a snack.

And I don't crave sweet things AT ALL, which is good, but I do crave very bitter things.

I don't get cravings for ice cream, or candy, or anything like that, maybe chocolate once in a blue moon, but not even that really.

Just the thought of eating something sweet bothers me !
