Over the last few years my tsh results have been 3.5 at their lowest to 5.4 The most recent was 4.8 last month.
No doctor will treat me nor run further testing because Canada has not implemented the same blood reference range as the U.S.
I have brought many documents to different doctors to try and see if I could possibly have my thyroid looked at a little more serious...and everytime I am dimissed as if I am an idiotic simpleton.
I am frustrated...I have many symptoms of hypothyroidism but can not find any lab or doctor in this country that uses the new reference ranges.
Going to the U.S. is obviously not an option & no one that I have spoke to within Canada can offer any helpful advice....
Does anyone here have any thoughts or helpful hints.
TIA
The worst kind of thyroid problem id borderline hypo or hyper. I have been hypo all of my life. Struggled wiht many endo's and dr's to take me seriously when I start to feel a little bit off. What many do not realize is if they wait until the test shows you are hypo or hyper, it takes up to six months for your body to play catch up. The levels may look right on the lab results but your body has to adapt. I would keep going to different dr's until they take you seriously! Or if that is not an option I would go back to your primary dr and tell him something has to be wrong. You need his/her help! Nowadays you have to be insistant in order to be heard.

I'm right there with you. Sitting at 5.3 and can't get treatment. I also have really high antibodies so I have untreated Hashi's. I also have a mom with thyroid cancer, an aunt with a goiter and a sister with Hashi's. Fun times.

Thanks for the support.
Nobimbo, I think I may call some of those Dr's offices and see what references ranges they are using.
I am going to meet a new family physician this week and I hope she is a little better than the last.
Thanks again Ladies
Just a quick question for those of you that have had simular bloods & are on Synthroid...what are your doses?
Just so I can have some knowledge when I meet with the new doctor this week.
TIA
I am on 212, a 100 and a 112. Synthriod is usually prescribed by weight at first, then adjusted as necessary. I started at 175, but that wasn't enough so we tried 200, then several other combinations before landing on 212.
The biggest thing I can stress is to make sure you are able to communicate with your doc so you can be feeling great again!

Just a quick update.
Although it's just a small step...
next week my new dr. is going to start me on a minimal dose of synthroid.
Atleats it's a step in the right direction.
That's fabulous news!
I hope you start feeling better soon.
I'm going back to the Endo soon and am hoping my thyroid has died a tiny bit more to pass that magical 5.5 TSH number. Sad, huh?!

Sandra,
Have you been to your endo yet?
Just wanted to check & see how you are doing.
I dropped off my Rx for Synthroid today...like I said it's a step in the right direction. I hope you find your doctor is little more accomodating to you at your next visit(assuming you haven't been there yet)
I haven't been yet. I had to postpone it a bit since we're going on a mini vacation next week. I doubt anything will happen, he's very, very old school.
I'm now waiting for my referral appointment to an RE so maybe I'll have some luck there.
Thanks for asking! I'm so glad you got the Synthroid. Keep me posted. And, if you're ever in Victoria, let me know, I'll play tour guide!
