Default Frustrated Newbie... Any advice?

I have not officially been diagnosed yet with PCOS, but all my physicians think that it is likely... I've been seeing an endocrinologist for my thyroid (which is just a whole other issue), but she is finally sending me for testing to confirm if I have PCOS. I don't have all the symptoms, so we'll see what the results say.

My main issue is my that for the past week I have been having pretty severe abdominal pain near my left ovary, and I am having issues with my ob/gyn. I could use some advice on how to handle the situation and how to find a good doctor?

Here's a little history...

A few months back I had similar pain that was not as strong. In Feb, I went to my ob/gyn... they did an ultrasound that came back negative. I was told to follow-up with my PCP to rule out anything else. I did, and they sent me for a CT Scan that showed 3 or 4 cysts on my right ovary in March. For most of April I was basically pain free up until last Tuesday night when I woke up with a really bad sharp pain on my left side. I finally broke down and called my ob/gyn today, which I should mention I am a newer patient to... but after reviewing my chart they told me that since I had a negative ultrasound in Feb. that there was nothing more that they could do, and they suggested I contact a GI Dr or that I could go to the ER. Even though in my chart is says I have a history of ovarian cysts, and a strong family history of endometriosis.

I was completely frustrated by that response, but I knew that the pain is my ovary and off I went to spend the day in the ER. In the ER, they did another CT scan that showed my ovary is enlarged and there are cysts. The ER doc then said that I need to follow-up with my ob/gyn. I just do not know the best way to approach the discussion with the ob/gyn, so that I get the best care that I need with out being brushed off again.

welcome to sc sorry that you are having such pains. I had had a lap done in April which showed adhesions of endo on my left ovary. Not saying that is what you have, just saying what happened to me.

could you see a different dr If you arent happy with the one you have now? i had to change dr to get some pcos help

I had to see about 4-5 doctors before finding one that seemed to have a clue, the other doctors would run some preliminary bloodtests, not find anything exciting and send me on my way. I always knew something was wrong and kept at it. now im very happy with my doctor and as much as it took alot of time to finally find someone who gets it i have to say it was worth it. if your doctor believes this is whats wrong, but your meeting resistance else where, be very upfront with the specialist about it and if they still dont budge ask for a refferal to someone different. may take some time and some frusteration, but there are good ones out there who get it and do their job.
I also suffer from severe abdominal pain which is always there but ranges in severity and that is one of my main concerns i am trying to deal with now as well, so my heart goes out to you. so far they advised me to try the mirena, which i am very skeptical about, but apparently they determined that it helps treat endimetriosis now. I had to have 2 separate specialists inform me of this before i was game to try it. I havent had it in very long, just since the 24th of last month, and the abdominal pain is acting a bit different now, in the sense it isnt always there in the backround, it still comes thru and i feel it daily but it seems to be improving a bit since i did get it. I will keep you up to date if you want and let you know if it actually helps or not but that is the information i was given. hope some of this helps, and hope that you find someone willing to work with you on this issue.

Thanks for the advice. It is very frustrating that you have to fight to get the care that you need.

I have fired that practice. I contacted the practice that I use to go to, and I have an appt with them on Monday. So I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

EVA37... What did the pain feel like when you had the endo attached to the ovary? What was the course of action that your Dr took? Also, do you know if your ovary was enlarged from this? Thanks!
