Post frustrated over insurance

I just need to vent my frustrations. I finally started going back to an endocrinologist after a lapse of about 5 years. As a new patient, he ordered an entire bloodwork up. I went to the hospital (right across the road from him) to get my labs done about 2 weeks ago. I get my insurance claims statement in the mail today telling me that I went to an out of network facility and the hospital may charge me $1079!!

It is very frustrating and upsetting and I am partially mad at myself for not checking if this hospital was in network. I am also mad because the hospital didn't even bother to say, "Hey, you do know we aren't in your network."

I cried alot today.

(((hugs))) You learned a very hard lesson: always make sure a doctor or hospital is in your network before using your services. Check with the doctor's office and see if he would have let you go anywhere else to have your labs done. If he requires this particular hospital, you might approach it from that standpoint with the insurance company. I had surgery once and the anesthesiologist was out of network. I argued that I didn't have a choice about it and he was covered like he was in-network. If that doesn't work, set up a payment plan with the hospital and pay them what you can afford each month.

Sometimes if you call the Ins. company they can help. Other than that just ask the doctor to help you find a place that will do things for you.
