My endo insisted that I stay on 500mg of Met for two months until my first followup appointment, and I'm just tearing my hair about it. Despite maintaining my basically healthy diet (I do eat carbs, but I also get all my fruits & veg, only drink water, watch my snacks, never have fast food) and stepping up my exercise, I'm still gaining weight. At this rate I'll have nothing to wear! It was rapid weight gain coinciding with four months of missed AF that got me to seek treatment in the first place -- I can't keep this up and keep myself in jeans!
I know Met isn't a weight loss drug, and I'm not expecting it to be, but I want my body processes normalized. I'm just so ready for my generally healthy lifestyle to matter. I shouldn't be gaining weight so rapidly that my doc thought I had Cushing's because of the stretch marks... I've been a little sedentary lately, and I'm not a dieter, but the way I eat and the amount I work out just doesn't warrant what's been happening to my body and my wardrobe. My appointment isn't until April, so I'm still on this useless dose until then... please tell me that things will be easier afterwards and that I'll be able to eat and exercise like a normal person without busting out of my clothes!
I'm sorry, but I can't say it will all work magically when you next see your specialist. In my own case I gained 4 stone in a year which is when I was diagnosed, and I have been on met on and off for 6 years, but it doesn't help me with my weight loss. With some people it does, and with others it doesn't. If you have PCOS a lot of people find a low carb diet works the best for them, and that is what I have found, but we are all different.
It might be worth looking at the IR diet or another low carb diet to see if that helps.
best of luck

Start counting your total calories consumed during the day. Even if you are eating the healthiest foods in the world, you will still gain weight if the calories are being consumed. Try keeping a food journal. It definitely helps-If I have to write it down, I think twice!
As a former bulimic, it's not really safe for me to diet meticulously. In the past, counting calories/points has been a surefire path back to generally disordered eating. I eat whole grains and vegetables, avoid overdosing on sugar (though I do like to have sherbet) or processed flour/cereals/crackers, avoid full-fat dairy, and exercise 3-5 times a week. I've recently cut down on alcohol and coffee drinks. I never drink soda. My dinner portions are a little big, though I've been cutting that down, but at other times of the day I am if anything prone to forget about eating. (Right now, for instance, it's 3 pm and I've had some dates and post-workout water, though I'll probably try to eat something else before it gets too late and I get totally starving.) Am I really wrong to imagine that I shouldn't be rapidly gaining weight, even without having to put a number on everything I eat?
