My husband and I have been TTC #1 for 3 1/2 years now. I know I am not unlike many of you. I was DX with PCOS in 2003 and was put on Glucophage 1500mg in June of 2005. I did six rounds of every increasing Clomid which failed everytime. I have yet to Ovulate on my own. My question is ...... I went to my first appointment with my RE yesterday and me and My husband are now moving to the next stage.....FSH or injections. I want to know some if and of the side effects of these so I can prepare myself. I had some major mood swings with the Clomid and I would like to know if it is better or worse. Thank you for any imput. Good Luck to you all.
I found that the side effects from injectible medications like gonal-f were not as bad as Clomid. On Clomid I had major hot flashes. On gonal-f or follistim you will probably be bloated and your ovaries will feel achy. The injections are done with a small needle and it does not hurt very much or leave behind bruises, at least for me. Mentally, I didn't notice too many mood swings aside from the typical stress of having trouble TTC. If you go the IVF route, there are more medications with nastier side effects. I hope this helps.
Good luck!

I cant say enough good things about the injections...clomid not only didnt work for me either but it turned me into a raving lunatic...and SWEAT!!! Omg the hotflashes were wild!!
I have only had one unmedicated af in my life when i was 12...after that i needed meds everytime, i've tried everything nothing worked. When my RE finally said 'injections' my hubby's face went white as a sheet and i wasnt too sure either but its the best thing i ever did. Once i found those things started happening...pregnancy now that was another matter...but thats just me...i have two healthy boys and i'm totally loving being a mom!
I started Puregon (pure fsh) starting around 50iu and eventually went up as high as 150 for my first son, injected about 2 weeks. The hcg trigger shot was alittle more painful but not unbearable by any stretch...the skin just seemed a little redder and more tender. Remember you are injecting in fat, not muscle, there is no nerve endings in there to sense pain. ITs more the sensation that something is 'in there', like a slight burning sensation, you just rub it away and go on with your day. I actully came to kind of enjoy the injections...i totally felt in control and had some hope with them...made it alot easier.
Obviously it worked...three times! I would highly recommend you take a deep breath and think positive...they're not too bad promise!!! Pm anytime...i'm officially done ttc-ing but i remember well the whole experience...
good luck and tons of babydust!!

Mel19 and Kwannabee, Thanks for replying to my post. Congratulations on your DS Kwannabee and I'm sorry for your loss. Mel, have you had any babies yet or are you preggo. If so can you or Kwannabee tell me how many months it took on injections before you conceived. Just interested. My RE told me the first month would be more to fine tune my meds, but i could become preggo the first month. We'll see. I haven't O'd as far as I know as of yet. The only time I have ever had AF is with Meds or BCP, except for a few when I first started AF , like you Mel. Anyway thanks again.Good luck to you both.
Amber,
Sad to say, I'm not pg yet. My RE wanted to give the met time to work. I have always ovulated on my own so we've been trying naturally without any luck. I will probably be starting another IVF cycle soon. You can get pg on the first round of injectibles. You will have to go every other day for b/w and u/s and they may adjust your meds up or down but it is possible. Good luck!

I tried Clomid once and it drove me crazy! I didn't ovulate on that cycle so my RE tried Femara/Letrazole. I didn't ovulate on that either. The next step was Gonal-F. I ovulated and became pregnant each time we did a combo of injectables/IUI with HCG trigger shot (the first 2 preganancies resulted in miscarriages). The side effects were nothing compared to Clomid. I had the occassional bloating, but other than that, I felt fine.
I hope you respond well on injectables! They seem to work really well!

Thanks again guys. Mel I know it will happen for you, I'll be praying fro you. Enits, congrats on your Baby, not too much longer now. Me and DH went to RE for DH 's SA and to learn about the FSH injections and HCG shot. I got my Follistim pen from RE's office and we received our Follistim AQ cartridges, needles and HCG Med (can't remember the name) through FED-EX today. It only took one day. I can't believe it. I am so ready to get started. I have to wait though. I will take 200mg of Prometrium around FEB 1 for 10 days to bring on AF, then I have to call the RE's office when AF arrives. Then I'll start the ultrasounds and monitoring. Wish me luck girls. I will be Praying for you all.
