I had one a couple of months ago. You basically just have to lay there while they run the transmitter over your belly. Takes about 20 minutes or so. The worst part is when they have you hold your breath. It seems like it takes FOREVER before they tell you that you can exhale. Even with that its still not too bad.
If they are going to check your female parts as well and they tell you to drink all the water before going in, some advice- I had a doctor tell me that the amount of water that they tell you to drink is unecessary and to just bring a good sized bottle into the waiting room with me. Thats exactly what I did and I was the only one there who wasn't bouncing in my seat and it worked just fine! Good luck!

I had an ultrasound done to check for cysts. I drank the recommended amount of water and followed the directions to a T. However, they were running about a half hour late! I was miserable! Pacing in the waiting room (full of people mind you) and I couldn't sit because it made it worse, I was even crossing my legs while standing. I told them I couldn't wait anymore and they told me I could go pee but only go a little bit and then stop. I did that TWICE! It was still horrible, as I have a really hard time holding it. Let me tell you after the ultrasound was done, it was the best release ever! LOL
Good luck with your ultrasound

Depending on whether you have an abdominal u/s or a vaginal, your bladder needs to be full so that it moves out of the way (of the ultrasound.)
I've actually been sent out to drink more water...
Most of the time I get both...my fibroids (because of their location) were only visible on the abdominal u/s (which is weird since one of them was the size of a baby's head - literally!)

I've had both tests--the abdominal and the vaginal. The procedure is not bad, either way, but all that water is uncomfortable. Fortunately, the office here moves you in and out quickly. I didn't have to wait in the waiting room for forever.

Yes, definately only drink like half of what they tell you to. I did it the first time following the directions (something like 4 glasses of water 2 hours before?) and I was in agony. The second time, I only drank 2 and it was fine, a little uncomfortable but not nearly as bad.
