Red face Funky "dry" lips

I don't know what has been happening this past week. I am finally up to 1500mg of metformin xr, and I drink a lot of water. But this past week my lips have felt dry - waxy - almost. Like I have used really cheap chapstick and they burn. I have all but stopped wearing lipstick for now because I just can't stand the feeling. I am switching between blistex, carmex, lip gloss, vaseline, and nothing seems to help. I bought some power aide drink thinking it could be dehydration and nothing! That and my skin is so dry.

Any suggestions on what to try?

how about the new Neosporin Lip treatment??
website: http://www.neosporin.com/liptreatmen...&page=0&from=0

This might sound really odd but when I was younger I had really bad chapped lips so I would put raw onion on it & it would heal up.. thats another option if you are desperate for relief! good luck!

Use a soft toothbrush and a little toothpaste to gently brush them morning and night. It really does help.

I will have to see if I could try the Neosporin. Maybe they will have it at Walgreens or somewhere close. Thank you!

I used to have the same problem until I began using Burt's Bee's. It is absolutely the only thing that has helped!

Do they kind of itch too? Do they burn when you put chapstick or whatever else on? Because this has been happening to me since last July. I saw a doctor yesterday and it's a bacterial infection. :O I'm on antibiotics now.

Hmm, I have been thinking about seeing the doctor. Just toooo many appointments lately with everybody else. That and I don't have a regular MD.

Default Blue Tube

Have you tried the Complete Moisture by Blistex? Regular Blistex didn't work, but this blue tube did. I have had a cold for two weeks and my lips were severely chapped. I have been using the Blistex for two days and I feel better already.

I've been turning this post over in my head for two days now. It doesn't seem so coincidental that this happened just as you upped your Met dose. I do know that Met can interfere with one's B Vitamin absorbtion, and I also know that vitamin deficiency can cause painfully dry lips. So I googled it. I hope this link works! Here were my results:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...2Blips&spell=1

I see you are taking pre-natals, but I wonder if they are providing enough vitamins to overcome the B Vitamin deficiency issue Met can give. You may want to give the doctor who prescribes your Met a call about the issue and just ask. Can't hurt!

My mother has permanent nerve damage thanks to being on Glucophage without being warned of the B Vitamin issue. It's now my mission to get the word out on this!

Wow, this makes a lot of sense now! I am currently on Metanx which is to help my high homocysteine levels. Here is some information about it http://www.metanx.com/UnderstandingHomocysteine I wonder if your Mom should have her levels tested. This is my second month of taking the Metanx.

Thank you all for your info! I am going to contact my RE and let her know what is going on.

Laural! Thank you oh thank you for the info on Metanx!!! I would have never known this existed otherwise and sadly my mother's endo is... well, not so good. I do know that her homocysteine levels have run high in the past as well, which is no surprise as she has heart disease. This could help her in a major way! I cannot thank you enough

Do call your doctor, just in case. It's what they're there for after all I hope they can solve this issue for you!
