Default Future Realize Bander...

Hey Everyone!

I'm brand new to this forum, and THRILLED that there is an entire section devoted to WLS.

Prior to my PCOS diagnosis last Friday, I had been working towards getting approved for WLS.

I attended my first seminar in July 2008.... and have been jumping through all the various hoops for insurance approval, including: a 6 month diet, psych evaluation, counseling, nutrition counseling, exercise counseling, support groups, blood tests, etc.

I am about 90% approved, according to the surgeon's office... just waiting on some last paperwork. I think I may also submit my PCOS diagnosis, I think it *might* count as a second co-morbidity. If not, the insulin resistance should!

I am currently 4'11 and 232lbs. According to the physician, my "lean mass" (?) is around 150lbs... which means I'm far more muscular than most people my size. We were baffled at first.... but the insulin resistance explains it all, according to my doctor. *sigh*

Anyway... I am thrilled to know that there are others with PCOS who have been successful with WLS. I look forward to getting to know you girls better!

I just now saw your post. I have the lapband but they are pretty much the same. Its an exciting time getting approved & getting ready for the change of a life time.

I just wanted to let you know (as everyone will tell you) the band is a small tool in the equation. YOU have to do the work, it will not do it for you. All the bad does is simply make you feel fuller faster (& that takes a couple of fills). You have to change your way of thinking & start to choose healthier food choices & to exercise.

I love my band & have lost 55 lbs in nearly 5 mons. I could have lost more for sure but I still deal w/some weak moments. Plus, I have needed a fill but with bad weather & vacation was not able to get it.

I just want to wish you the best of luck & let me know if you have any questions.

Check out the WLS diva thread under diet/exercise buddies.

Congratulations! How exciting! Remember to take 'before' pictures & measurements so that you can compare to those as you loose weight. It's always exciting to say that you've lost 'x' inches on top of sizes. Good luck with your approval process!

Oh...and one more tip...get involved with a local support group because no matter how much support you have from family and friends no one really knows what you're going through than another person who's had the same surgery as you did. Good luck!

Kristy
