Angry GAH! sleep pattern problems and BBT charting.

So I bought my thermometer, herbs, soy isoflavon tablets, and had all ready made my detailed charts through the beginning of the new year... I get all settled and hit a bump in the road.

I had completely forgot to take into consideration the fact that I don't sleep through the night. here's the run down.

by 8 I am usually in bed.

10:30 I wake up to check the clock.

11:45 I wake up to roll over (I have woken a couple times slightly to move or toss the blanket off me between 10:30 and now)

12:30 I am up to pee

1 am I am awake. WIDE the FRICK awake worrying about when I have to wake up and take my temp.
1:20 am I wake up to check the time.
1:40 am I check the time again
2 am awake again... getting mad
now I usually continue that pattern till 4-4:15 when I give up and just get up.

Now I know I'm supposed to rest and wake up from a deep sleep to take my temp. So what am I supposed to do when I don't really get deep sleep? This is my normal sleep pattern. What should I do?

I have the same problem when I first started temping, I constantly worried that I was going to "sleep in" past the time that I set my alarm for. I took a week off temping this cycle, and now I'm back at it again waking up all worried, or wondering why my temp would me. For me, I don't think the fact that I'm waking up in the night matters because I'm still in bed, not moving around a lot etc. Getting up to go to the washroom may make a difference though. I did that once and forgot to temp first and my temp was way off.

Hopefully you'll get used to it.

Are you afraid you will miss your alarm? Are you just really excited about temping?

I went through a similar thing when I was temping the earlier part of this year. I was soooo worried that I wouldn't fall asleep fast enough to give me three hours of sleep before temping at 5:15 (I'm a big night owl!). That only made me more anxious and not able to go to sleep. Plus, I was not aware of the recall function on my therm, so I was turning on lights and trying to write down my temp every morning. That would just wake me up for the day, and so I was massively sleep deprived and on edge. Around O time, I would get so excited wondering if I would have a spike that I wouldn't sleep. In the 2WW, it was worse, wondering what my temp would do.

I don't have much advice for you, other than do what you can to make temping as routine as possible for you. Maybe set up several alarm clocks so there is no way you can miss temp time? I use a couple digital egg timers to help me wake up.

I think it's 1. the fact that because of the excessive amount of weight I have left to lose I have pain and trouble staying comfortable. That has become routine for me. I usually don't sleep more than 20 minutes at a time. another reason is of course worrying about trusting my alarm I'v had as I assume every one else has, morning where I wake up with 20 minutes to get to work and because I have anxiety issues I tend to worry about that. and of course I am very worried about waking up and messing my temping up...

I just had an idea. usually I get a few hours sleep at the beginning of my night, what if I set the alarm to wake me in the middle of the night after the best part of my sleep pattern and temp then. My thermometer has a recall function. I could wake up, take my temp, turn off the alarm and go back to sleep. Would that count?

Yes, that would be perfect. Try that. Just wake up at the same time each night during the cycle so your temps aren't wonky. Make sure you have at least three hours, that's all. Good luck!!!

Wow.. I can't believe I didn't think of that before!! Waking up in the middle of the night to take it.. I'm really terrible when it comes to waking up all the time too.. tossing and turning and getting anxious about not having enough sleep to take the temp, lol. Great idea!

I'm going to start trying that tonight. Poor hubby lol. Good thing I have a his and her's alarm clock! Otherwise Id most likely forget to reset it or just wake all the way up when I tried.

I actually do that to an extent. Most nights I am not asleep until 2 or 3, so I temp at 8 and go back to sleep.

lol... well it didn't work. I set my second alarm for 12:30 and woke up at 12 went pee came back to bed saw my innocent thermometer looking at me with disgust and I'm sure I cussed up a storm lol. This will take some practice and time getting used to.

Have you tried taking a Benadryl before going to bed? Some women take it to help them fall asleep since it makes you drowsy. Its also safe to take during pregnancy so it wont harm you or the baby if you get pregnant. I've tried it on rough nights when I cant go to sleep and it doesnt affect me in the morning

It doesnt matter when you temp, What is important is that it is at the same time every night and after 3 hours of sleep.

SO update time (Because I know your all just sitting on pins and needles about how sticking a thermometer in my mouth went lol I kid I kid) And.... I DID IT!!!! YAY!!! It took some herbal tea, a hard days work, and going to sleep early (thus missing my "date" night with the DH, he was rather disappointed this am lol) Went to bed early (well earlier) and woke up when the alarm went off at 12:30A took my temp smacked my alarm clock to shut the beezy up and rolled over when the thermometer beeped. So cool! Now I just gotta work on braving the scary world of CP & CM charting and I'm good to go! lol

I was going to switch my wake up time next month but I think I'm gonna have to just go ahead and do it this month. I usually wake up at 4:30 for my temp but I've noticed I keep waking up around 3.. I might have to change it to then because it completely screwed up my temp this morning

Yah I have to get up at 4 to start getting ready for work (isn't commuting awesome?!) and I just can't trust the latter half of my sleep since I wake up to... frickin check the time...seriously? LAME. Any-whozle. I think it's just getting over the feeling like:

SQUEE!!! IT'S BAYBEE MAKIN TIME!!!

and just hunker down. But ohhhh I keep seeing prego's waddelin around town and, I just can't stop myself from wandering too close to the edges of the black hole that is the baby department of wal-fart:

"Oh you found me hunny, I swearz I got sucked into the baby department and yes, I know I need to put allll the baby stuff back that was just too stinkin cute to not let go of and did you hear that? I think my uterus just twitched..."

-sigh- and it never helps that my mother is pressuring me for a grand kid and my step son has some of the bluest eyes ever.. such a funny kid. -sigh-

-uterus twitch-

"did any body hear that?... jesus it sounds like the worlds loudest clock!"

Ok enough of the funnyz... I'm off to continue drinking that frickin fertility tea... I'm SO over the stuff it aint even FUNNY!

LOL 'wal-fart' that was priceless.

My problem is getting up to check the time constantly.. like my body is trying to punish me for wanting to check my temp so bad, lol I actually can't wait until I can sleep ALL night and not have to worry about it, haha
