Default Gaining weight despite 2000mg of Metformin

Has anyone else gained wieght while taking Metformin?
I have been taking it for 2 months 2000mg each day.
The 1st month my weight stayed the same.
This month I have gained 10 lbs. And my diet has not changed at all.

The Met by itself has never caused me to lose weight beyond the initial tummy upset. Once my body adjusts to it, I have to adjust my diet and add exercise to get the pounds off. I was on 2000 mg, but have backed down to 1500 now since losing a bit.

What foods do you eat, and what sort of physical activity are you doing?

Besides chasing and playing with my 4 year old and 9 month old, I alos do 20 minutes on the Gazelle every other day.
I have cut down on the naughty foods although I havent quit them entirely yet, that is something I need to work up to.
I eat alot of fruits and veggies.

I was on 2000 mg of Met and I gained weight--I've never lost weight on Met...and that is eating healthy and everything. I think mine was caused by a lack of an AF b/c I went 8 months on Met with no AF...but I hope things turn around for you and you start to lose weight!

Well, when i started Met, i didnt loose any weight either? I stayed the same just like you. But in the next month or two i lost, due to change of diet. I stopped eating SO many carbs, and eating so late at night! That seemed to do the trick for me.

I sit as a desk all day, so somtimes i get the munchies. Instead of eating chips and junk food (which i so admit to doing..lol) i would grab a Fiber One bar or water.

Hope this helps! GL

I know what you mean about chasing the kiddies - mine are 3 years and 8 months

I didn't lose much weight until I joined Weight Watchers and started writing down exactly what and how much I was eating. Then the pounds started to melt away. I'm sure I was greatly underestimating how much I was eating before.

Maybe try keeping a food journal for a week and then look back over it to see what you could "tweak."

One way I sneak in some exercise is to use my 8 month old to do some "weight" lifting. I'll lift him up and down over my head (not right after he eats, LOL) and count (I started wtih 8, now we're up to 12), then lay down on the floor and do it again. He loves it, and I'm gaining some upper body strength while playing with him.

I hope you can figure out why you're gaining. That's really frustrating, I know.

Keep a food journal for a week or two, go to the doctor and say "Look, this is every bite I have put in my mouth since ____. Can you please tell me why I'm still gaining weight?" If you're exercising, track that, too, and take those records with you. Showing the facts in writing can help a lot of people understand things when just telling them doesn't. If the first doctor can't help, keep looking until you find one who can.

I hope everyone who is having this problem can get to the bottom of it soon.

And big {{{HUGS}}} to those who haven't found a doctor who takes them seriously.
