Not a lot of pain (except the healing kind) after surgery.

If I remember correctly there are quite a few of us without Gallbladders because of all the hormonal spikes and changes seem to just mass produce stones.

Dh had his gallbladder out years ago, ( he had the full incision ) He said he had pain from just the healing part of it. But aside from that nothing else.

If it's sever, check back with your DR to make sure that everything is okay.

I had my gallbladder out last year (March) and I had just a bit of discomfort from the surgery itself, and the areas around my incisions were a bit sore, but nothing major. I didn't take my pain meds very often after the first day and was back to normal within a week.

One side effect that you should be aware of is that you still may not be able to eat trigger foods. My triggers were spicy foods and high-acid foods...and I still can't eat them (darn...I LOVE spicy). If I have buffalo wings, I'm up with indigestion and reflux, if I have other spicy foods or foods with a lot of fat like fried stuff, I get diarrhea. So just be careful of what you eat until you know what is going to affect you and what won't.

I had my gallbladder out 6 years ago at age 19 after rapidly losing weight. There was only about 3 days healing pain I was fine but for about the next 4 years I couldn't even finish a meal without having to QUICKLY go to the bathroom in the middle of it.... or RIGHT after it. Not fun when you are at a resturant or a friends house or something. Sometimes it doesn't even make sense... lettuce and cabbage really really don't do well in my system but I still eat them because they are favorites. Just have to see how your body adjusts because everyone reacts differently.

I had my gall bladder removed last month and every so often and I'm not really sure what triggers it but I'll get this sharp intense pain where my gall bladder would have been. It catches me off guard and lasts for a few seconds. Feels like a stabbing pain like someone poked me real hard in my side kind of feeling except a little more intense. I guess kind of like phantom pains.

I did ask the Nurse when I went to my follow-up appt. she said it'll go away. She told me to ask the doctor but by the time he came into the room I forgot to ask. I've had several friends who have had there GB removed and they also have experienced this sharp pain. Not sure what causes it.

It's definatley not a pain related to the surgery, after my surgery in the recovery room I had 4mg of morphine, came home the next day with 30 tablets of Darvocet and only took one tablet and nothing else. I had absolutley no pain at all from the surgery, more of a "to many sit-ups" discomfort feeling. Had surgery Friday evening and was driving and back at school on Monday.

This little pain doesn't bother me nearly as much as the diarhhea while my stomach has been adjusting to digesting foods minus my gallbladder. That's the horrible part. Very inconvenient for sure to hang around a bathroom constantly.

Hope that helps :-)

My mom just had hers out, but the doctor said that 20% of people can still get pain where the gallbladder used to be. This website says 34% still have pain after having it removed http://www.gallbladderattack.com/gal...rsurgery.shtml
Phantom organ pain? maybe..lol like phantom limb after having an amputation? Just a theory.

I had mine out when I was 18, there wasn't any pain aside from just the healing of it and the incisions. I did have those sharp stabbing pains as described above. And also the whole food thing, certain foods would just not agree with me and like mentioned above it was instant stomach cramps and diarrhea. But luckily for me that has stopped, it happens every once in awhile but not like it was before.

I had mine out about a year and half ago and boy did i suffer, i had internal bleeding which left a thick blood ball in the space where my gallbladder was which pushed on my diaphragm and i couldnt breath if i layed down, the pain was intense and i had blood seapage into the tissue around one of the incisions which left an unsightly bruised effect on my stomach for about a month or so. after some tests were done they decided they were going to drain the blood but found out they couldnt because it was too thick, i just had to put up with it. I couldnt lay down in bed for about 4 months after the surgery i had to be propped up with pillows and cushions and sleep sitting up. However im a fairly isolated case, my mum, sister, aunt and grandmother didnt have a great deal of pain after thiers and recovered quickly... yes gall stones are hereditary and affect mostly women.
Have a great day
Mel

it is possible to still have stones in the duct causing pain. It is pretty common shortly after surgery. I have a friend that recently experienced this months after her surgery, but they said that is rare.

I also had mine out 6 years ago at 19! I still am having lots of problems digesting foods. I can't really pin-point it on specific foods, but it sometimes it seems like after I put anything in my mouth I need to use the bathroom ASAP. Not fun. But I also think I have IBS so that probably contributes to it too.

I only had pain for a few days and it really wasn't too bad because they gave me pain meds. If your pain is too much, you should call your doctor.

I had mine removed and was in pain for a few weeks, then adjusting to foods again....the bad bad diarrhea. That was years ago and some foods (especially beef) still make my stomach cramp bad shortly after eating it.
