Default Gas/frequent bathroom trips?

Ever since I started taking Met (about a year and a half ago) I've had a hard time adjusting to the stomach issues. Is this common?

Basically I started taking it, and had bad gas and cramps that showed up about an hour or so after I took the daily pills. This has resulted in me not taking it because I know I have to be out at work and not want to be gassing up the place. Or being out with friends, and not wanting to have to excuse myself to run to the bathroom.
So I stop taking it, usually for a week at a time (because it's like a domino effect), and then i'll start taking it again only to get irritiated with the stomach problems again.
Constant cycle.

I'm not taking it right now, but I know I need to because of this new diet i'm on. But I was hoping you guys might have some insight, or at least some suggestions for dealing with it.

Any thoughts?

Is it diarrhea that you're running to the bathroom for,...or just gas, but you're afraid it might be more, so you go to the pot?

I personally take Immodium two times everyday...sometimes more if I know my diet is gonna make it rough. It seems to work for me. It DOES seem to work for me...and the pills are tiny, so they're very easy to carry in your purse or even pocket, in a tiny container, or even in the foil wrapper/dispensing thingie that keeps them safe & sterile.

Sorry I can't help more,

I'm on the glycemic index diet right now, so most of what i'm eating is veggies and "good " carbs. I am eating a lot beans right now, so gas is to be expected. But i've had this gas problem since I first started with Met.

I think i'll try taking Immodium and see if that helps.
And yes, i'm running to the bathroom because of diarrhea. The diarrhea isn't constant or anything, it just seems like it happens shortly after I take my pills. No fun.

Im having the same problem hon.

I take mine at night and generally get a bit gassy afterwards and feel a bit icky, then when I wake in the morning, often spend a while running to the loo with diarrhea, no fun I know. I'm really trying to persevere with it though because I have really bad IR and need to be on this medication.

I'm also avoiding fatty, sugary, hi GI foods .... you will soon work out which foods effect you the most. I'm keeping a daily journal and take note of when I feel the worst and what I've eaten, it's a learning process I find!! For example I had a foccacia for lunch one day last week and was sick afterwards, its the hi GI factor I think.

Hang in there sweetie

Thanks PuppyLove!
I'm currently doing the GI diet, so I know what you mean.
It's been working really well so far, but the change in diet plus the Met is really doing a number on my stomach. I know it's worth it in the long run, but it's such a pain in the butt (literally ha!).

I think i'm just going to have to change the time that i'm taking it. Right now I take it around noon, but I think i'm going to start taking it earlier in the morning so by the time I go to work (at 5pm) i'll be through the worst of it.

Hey Sweetly

Ahh it's good to know you're not alone isn't it!! I'm sooo sick again today, had pasta for dinner last night (was in the low GI book!!) and boy oh boy my body is NOT impressed!!!

It's 2pm here now and I'm only now having a bowl of oatmeal with raspberries, hope it helps settle my tummy

A pain in the butt (literally) is a good way to describe this!! lmao
