Default Gastric Bypass/Lap Band in Canada??

Hi all,

I am just wondering if anyone in Canada has had any success with these weightloss surgeries? Or know of any family/friends that have had it done?

I am seriously considering it but don't want to travel to the US for it?
I am in BC..is there anyone that knows any doctors on the west coast that perform this surgery?

Thanks,
Amanda

My father in law had the "band" type done here in Ontario. The surgery went well, but honestly I don't think he's lost much weight (if any) and still eats more than me at meal time. I don't think he was commited to it. It was not covered by OHIP and cost about $10,000 or at least that's what my mother in law claims ... not sure if I believe her.

All the best!

Yes I know many people here who have had great success with this. I am seeing a doctor in Victoria to have this done.

Certain procedures are not covered but other's are, the one I am gaving is call a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

Here is the link for my doctors site.

http://www.victoriabariatricsurgery.com/index.html

Dr. Amson is a awesome doctor.

* I am just editing to say that if you are seriously considering this procedure you have to be totally committed to eating right and exercise. The surgery helps but it doesn't do all the owrk for you.*

Anyone know what it would be for an Albertan cyster? Will any part of the cost be covered by healthcare?

Amy

I believe as long as you are morbidly obese and it is referred by a doctor the sergery is covered, but that is something you will have to talk to your doc about.
