Question Gastric Bypass Surgery - Longterm Effects

Hello, I am doing research in my journey to decide if gastric bypass surgery is what is best for me. Through many hours of research, my most mind bogling question has been, "What are the LONGTERM EFFECTS" from having this surgery? (Good and Bad)" So, I am asking all of my fellow cysters, "If you or someone you know has had gastric bypass surgery, and it has been OVER 2 Years, please tell us how you are doing, what are your results, any complications?" Over course, I really want to hear from or about people with the greatest amount of time that has passed since their surgery. Thanks, I look forward to reading all your posts.

I am only almost 11 months out but it was the best thing I ever did for myself. Look on www.obesityhelp.com and spolighthealth.com

They have message boards and you will be able to ask longer-term post-ops what they feel and how they are doing.

Good luck!

Tithers, I would love to speak to you about your GB. And anyone who has had it.

I go for my first consultation tomorrow.

Only problem is.. my regular doctor wants me to try to lose weight on my own. But he knows now that I may have PCOS (Tests aren't finished) because my mom goes to see him as well. And I've had such hard troubles losing weight to begin with.

It seems that no matter what I try, I keep gaining.

I've joined gyms, done weight watchers, was on diets even when I was a kid, I did Atkins...

I'm praying and hoping now that my doctor will be able to 'grant' me what I've wanted for months. I am healthy enough for it.

-sigh-

I'm excited to see the GB surgeon tomorrow though! Maybe he can tetll me a way to convince my doctor

I highly recommend visiting the online support groups that I mentioned above...most insurance companies require a 6 month DR supervised diet within the past year. CALL your insurance company today to see what the guidelines are to get approved for surgery. I would hate for you to waste your time if there is an exclusion written in your policy.
Good luck on your journey!
