general counselor or marriage and family counselor?
I need someone to talk to about the stress of PCOS, my desire to have children and the thoughts that I won't, the stress of work, and running a household.
I'm not sure if I should see a general counselor or a marriage and family counselor. I've search and there are none that specialize in fertility. Any suggestions?
You might want to mention your desire to find a therapist to your primary care physician or RE and have him/her make a referral. They might know of therapists who specialize in the areas that you need.
Maybe also consider creating a post in the FIND A DOCTOR forum to see if anyone in your area is currently seeing someone that they would recommend.

Thanks Kat! I did mention to both my general and Re that I want to go to counseling.... my general didn't know of anyone, and my RE only referred me to the two non-participating providers that are part of the clinic. I'll try the find a dr section.
a marriage and family therapist would be very good for those issues, because they will look at your life within the context of what is going on in your family or marriage. but a general counselor could work great as well for getting to the root of things because they will try to pinpoint the root of your individual issues. It all depends on the individual you feel most comfortable with. if you cannot find someone who works with fertility issues, try searching for women's issues in general and you should find someone. best wishes to you!
