Question General question about BCP's

How do you know when a BCP isn't the "right one" for you? I am currently on Ortho Cyclen (they just call is Cyclen here in Canada), and am not sure if it's "working" for me because I am getting some breakthrough bleeding/spotting each month. I have tried tons of different BCP's over the years (Alesse, Diane-35, Minestrin, etc.), and seem to recall that Demulen (I think it's also known as Zovia) worked pretty well for me several years ago. Should I just go back to the tried and true Demulen?

The spotting you describe is how my new dr unofficially dx'd me (until my sonogram 10 minutes later! ) He increased the dosage within my bcp--I went from Yasmin (and had tried most of the ones you mentioned over the years) to OvCon50. My spotting (which had gone on for years) has stopped so far.

There is a sticky at the top of this forum that may help you choose as well.

Thanks Cameryn.

Another quickie - can someone refresh my memory about why bi-phasic and tri-phasic bcp's are usually not good for women with PCOS? I believe that this is indeed a fact, and I believe that it's because the fluctuating levels of hormones throughout the month can cause havoc on our systems - is this correct??? My doctor has suggested me trying Ortho-Novum 7-7-7 (which is a tri-phasic bcp) and I am really hesitant about it because I have heard that mono-phasic bcp's are the only way to go for women with PCOS.

Aaaaarrrrggghhh. Why can't it be easy!!!????
