Im on bcp just for the month since we recently had a m/c. I turned in my rx for yasmin and of course the pharmacy filled me with a generic. I should have requeted name brand because I have not enjoyed the generic, Ocella, before when I took it. However, for the past 11 days I have had nasty headaches, dizziness, and nausea. I googled it and found several complaints that were similar when switching from Yasmin to Ocella. Has anybody else experienced this?? I tried to fill a new rx for name brand yasmin but my insurance wont let me. Im totally blaming my feeling crummy on this switch!

Hi I just started taking Ocella today so I am hoping for no bad side effects. But if so, I guess next month I'll pay the $77 for Yasmin. I thought Yasmin and Ocella had the same ingredience so that is why I choose the generic. I was on Yaz as of yesterday and I do not think it was strong enough anymore because I was having a lot of break through bleeding and starting to gain weight. Hope the Ocella starts working better for you. Have you had any weight gain while on Ocella? If so, was the Yasmin better with combating weight gain? Thanks.
I always felt like the Yasmin was good for helping me control my weight since my hormones are wacko if I am not on BCP. With ocella, I have hardly been able to keep down any food because of the nausea, and have been skipping dinner a lot. Evenings is when I feel the worst, I take my pill first thing in the morning. I dont know if I have gained any weight, but honestly with as little as I have eaten I should have lost it. I do feel a tad more bloated than usual though. I have read women are gaining more weight on Ocella rather than Yasmin. I am always weary of generics because they say they have "fillers" and slightly different ingredients. I think it probably will have different effects for different people so hopefully you will be ok. I just know that next time I have to go on BCP I am taking Yasmin and not Ocella!

Yasmin, Yaz and Ocella are all made by Bayer. I think the funny part is how outrageously priced they all are yet they have been on the market for a while. I have heard nothing except complaints about Ocella, even though they are all supposed to be the same formula. Something in them is obviously cheaper or else they wouldn't be able to sell it as cheap as they do.
One thing I am trying to look into is if Bayer will do a drug assistance program so that way people with PCOS can get some prescription drug relief.
I'm on ocella and haven't had any side effects. 2 weeks after I started taking I was having some vertigo, but I think that was because I wasn't drinking enough water. I've been on ocella for 5 months now with no problems or breakthrough bleeding, and have even skipped periods successfully with it. I have another friend on ocella who hasn't had any effects except a little bit of breast growth. It seems when people take yasmin and switch to ocella they have more issues than starting out on ocella.. I'd never taken a bcp before, so that may be part of the reason why I'm not having issues.. good luck!
I have been on Ocella for two weeks now and it seems to be working fine. No more period, cramps, nausua or heart burn. And my weight is back down to where it was before Yaz stated to cause me problems. I think next month I will stick with Ocella. I have had no bad side effects. Unless the Yasmin for the 20 extra dollars a month will give me some big weight leoss I will stick with Ocella.
I've had no problems with Ocella now that my body has adjusted to it. Many of my outward symptoms of PCOS (minus the excess weight) has disappeared since taking it. Everybody is different, but I've done really well with this medication. I blame most of my nausea on Metformin.
I used to take Ocella for 2 years after dinner without any problems what so ever. regulated periods, weight loss and all that. But then, I was going through insurance switches this summer and so I did not take any BCP for 3 months. Now I am back on ocella and curretly am on my 6th day for the first pack since summer. However, this time I decided to take it after lunch and BOOM... nasea, headache, dizziness!!! so I looked into it and even the company recommends that if you experiance any sideeffects, try taking it after dinner rather than early in the morning. I don't know the reason but I am going back to my original time! Hope this helps!
