Arrow Getting diagnosed for the second time this week (hopefully)!

Hi all!

I'm new here and thought I'd tell you medical history to see how it relates to your symptoms. You can find out more about ME and my family from our blog http://www.marie-chris-siobhan.blogspot.com

I'm due to see my doc this Thursday to get a(nother) diagnosis for PCOS.

I have had blood tests before (2003) and was put on cortisone tabs (gyn said that I had excessive amounts of male hormones in my blood) but never told that I had PCOS!

After not having had a period since January '06 (I've probably only had about 10 AF's since starting my period 11 years ago...) and basically displaying ALL the symptoms listed on any self-help website/book, I've decided to get properly diagnosed by a new Dr (have moved) and hopefully start some sort of medication.

So, as I've basically been diagnosed before, I can pretty much say, that I HAVE PCOS.

My symptoms are as follows:

- amenorrhea (no periods)
- oily skin and adult acne (been getting extreme over
the last 3 months!)
- hirsutism (excessive hair growth on chin, chest,
stomach and thighs)
- fluctuatig bodyweight (lost weight after the birth of my
dd, but have put it all back on
again)
- small breasts
- mood-swings
- insulin-resistance (been diabetic type 1 since I was
14, so not sure what was there first - the diabetes or
PCOS)
- darkening of skin (one dark patch on lower left arm)
- miscarriage (6.5 years ago around week 12-14,

though that might have been down to
the diabetes)
- difficulty getting pregnant (haven't been ovulating at
all this year but LH-tests show up
positive)
Have had 3 pregnancies though -the first was by
chance, the second after coming off
the pill (inadvertedly), the third after taking the
cortisone tabs.

I am not desperate to get pregnant again at this stage, so I would welcome taking the pill to help with my symptoms.
I'm really fed up with my facial skin at the moment as well as the excess hair on my chin -hopefully the doc will put me on some meds for that, too.

We were TTC and I've been temp-charting which brought to light, that I'm NOT ovulating -I DO want another baby (or two) and due to my diabetes it would be better if I could predict when I get pregnant again... I'm beginning to think, that I might have to take something to help me ovulate when we do decide to try again!

Been feeling absolutely abnormal, but finally finding out, that there's actually a name for all this and that I'm not the only one suffering from it, makes it all a bit more bearable!!!

Would love to talk to you all, so get in touch!
Take care,

Marie

WELCOME CYSTER!!!!

I'm glad you've found us. A lot of your symptoms sound like PCOS, however, I'm no dr. Having a good dr is the key. I know what a relief it is to have an answer, but it's also overwhelming, for me it was. The women here are absolutly amazing and always try to help in any way they can, so i'm sure you will find a lot of help. I'm here too and will offer the same help. If you ever need to talk, PM me I'm always available to help a cyster in need.

Keep us posted on how things go!

Welcome cyster. I've also been recently diagnosed. Well, I was diagnosed some time ago but that doc wasn't willing to treat it. I now have a new doc and just starting to look into what can be done.

When I got married and was ttc I was just coming off orthtricyclen. I think it really helped get my ovaries in shape and got me healthy so I could conceive. It didn't take long at all to get pg.

Good luck with getting it all figured out.

Welcome Marie!

I wish you all the best for your doctor visit! Please let us know how it goes!

I will tell you, I've been on BCP and metformin, and I feel that metformin helped me the most. Regulated my cycles, helped me lose weight, helped me conceive. Just my thoughts!

I hope you get answers for what you are going through, and know that we're here for you.

Hugs
Jenny
