I have recently been kicked off my health insurance. I have tried to apply to numerous companies, including BlueCross BlueShield and all of them have turned me down due to PCOS. I am not having any treatment for my infertility, and I am not overweight or insulin resistant. They just keep telling me that people with PCOS are considered High Risk. Do any of you have private health insurance that has accepted PCOS, if so please let me know. I really need some type of health insurance. Thanks!

If you have had eighteen (18) months of prior health insurance coverage with no gaps exceeding sixty-three (63) days, then you cannot be denied coverage due to a pre-existing medical condition. However, you must seek new health insurance coverage immediately upon termination of your prior coverage in order to be protected."

Thanks for the info. but I can't afford the HIPAA Guaranteed Issue Plans. The cheapest in my area is about $325 a month. I did good to pay my TennCare premiums. Anyway thanks for the reply. If you know of anything else let me know!

This might sounds stupid, but I didnt know your Insurance company could do that. I have Western Health Advantage and I've been with them for a few years now. Before that I had Pacific Care. I had about 7 plans to choose from through my employer. Sorry you're going through that. It must suck!
They can do it if it's private insurance. Only the group plans have to follow all the guidelines in HIPAA. So, it's best if you can do it to always stay on a group plan. That way, pre-existing conditions never play a part in your price or coverage.
Man, I didn't know having PCOS was such a big deal for insurance. If I'd known, I'd probably just have assumed I had PCOS from the results my first doctor interpreted wrongly as "unexplained infertility", and just started doing what I did anyway to cure it, which was just diet.
Thanks for responding. What sucks is me nor my husband can get health insurance through our jobs. I work for a newspaper, and everyone at my office has insurance through their spouses. My husband drive a medical transport van, and they do not provide health insurance. Maybe I'll find something I can afford. Thanks for your support.
