I found out right before Mother's Day that I have a tumor in my left kidney. Although they do not know for sure, the Dr. feels 95% sure that it is Renal Cell Carcinoma.
After about 4 scans and repeated b/w and x-rays, that show the *hot spots* and increased white blood cell counts, they decided to not do the biopsy (as that can possibly spread cancer) and just do (hopefully) a partial kidney removal.
I was hesitant about posting this but I realize that I could use all the support and positive thoughts & prayers I could get.
Although I have been told what to expect during the surgery and during the recovery, we are still very concerned. I am very scared and nervous.
The surgery is set for this Friday, July 25th. The Dr. told me to expect to stay in the hospitol for at least 4 nights and the first few weeks of recovery were not going to be easy.
Our families are pulling together to help out with the kids during this time, and I am very grateful for them.
Thank you all for reading this.

i'm praying for you too!! i know kidney issues can be kinda rough to recover from, so i hope you recover fast and take care of yourself!! it'll be great knowing your kids are with family so you can rest a bit.
My father had his kidney removed several years ago for a suspected malignant tumor. It did take several days in the hospital and then several weeks at home for recovery, but all in all he did just fine. Actually his biggest issue was constipation from the pain meds, so I would definitely be proactive about that with stool softeners, etc. Despite being an "ugly" tumor (according to the surgeon) the pathology reports all came back as a benign tumor.
This was his first major surgery in his lifetime, and with the cancer scare he did get pretty worked up in the weeks prior to the surgery. His doctor actually gave him an rx for xanax, and although he didn't need it often it was helpful for those nights right before the surgery when he had trouble relaxing and sleeping.

I pray that the Lord wraps you in his arms during your surgery and recovery! I pray that everything comes back benign and you will never have to deal with health problems like this any longer. I ask this in Jesus' Name! Amen

Thank you all so much for your prayers and words of encouragement!.
I have my preadmission testing tomorrow and will ask them about the xanax. I think they may just have to give me something to relax on the day of the surgery.

I will be getting admitted tomorrow morning instead of Friday. Apparently my antiphospholipid syndrome is quite severe and they need to start iv heprin prior to the surgery. I hope to update from the hospitol when I feel better. Thank you all for your prayers and support.
