Question Getting 'natural' 'rythyms' back?

See how I can put this. I usually always am on a medication to get me through the days, you know we have to take these antidepresants and antianxiety meds on a regular basis. My question is, I layed down today without a Xanax, b/c I wasn't anxious DUH! lol just really tired I guess after church, I fell asleep with no help from medications. When I woke up, I actually felt like myself, a little down, but felt odd like ok, I wasn't anxious when I woke up, I fell into a deep sleep, didn't know what day or time it was when I woke up. And as I woke up more, the sadness dissipated. It was weird to say the least.
Wondering if this has happened to anyone and do these medications really 'numb' you, meaning, I'm realizing that they are all potent chemicals, yet my body and mind feel like they're trying to restore my natural sleep cycles?
Am I making sense? Really curious about this...never really took things like this or what I put in my mouth and how the whole human body and its hormones re: sleep and mood seriously until early this year. It's been a slow, process, just wanted to ask about this.

Well, I have had a lot of problems with anxiety and depression. I am currently off all meds for it and doing okay but I don't know how long that will last. As far as the medications making you numb, they did me. I was never really up or down on them, just on an even keel. I could not hardly even get sad enough to cry when I was on anti-depressants....no matter how sad something was. I do not think that is good for a person, we all need to cry. Since I have been off the anti-depressants (about 1 month) I have cried more than I did in the 2 1/2 years I was on them. Not the depression, hopeless kind of crying....just emotions that I am not used to during movies (whether happy or sad), etc. I'm sure part is my hormones too as I have also gone off BCP.

I'm not really sure about the sleeping part. I have had problems with being over-tired for a long time now. I could sleep any time, anywhere. Since going on Met, it has been a lot better. I think it was just my blood sugar that was causing the constant fatigue. When I had anxiety was the only time I couldn't sleep well. HTH
