Default Getting our new baby on our insurance

Oh my, it's been years since I posted. We are fortunate enough to have just adopted our newborn son right at birth (1 mo. & 2 days old now). We are having trouble getting him on our health insurance until the adoption is final (6 mos.) and we have a social security number for him with us as the official parents. Has anyone else run across this? Any ideas what to do? Appointments are outrageous without insurance. And since the original Birth Certificate will have birthmom's name on it, vital statistics is telling me WE can't get a copy.

Thanks!
Tonia

O.k. most states it is either 30 or 60 days AFTER the baby is placed with you not after the adoption is finalized...b/c that takes 6 mos...if your ins. is under your work or you dh's call the HR and tell them what is going on...it is a nationwide law that they must add the child...the child to them doesn't matter if it biological or adopted...they have to add them. When we brought home ds we called the HR dept. at dh's work and got the form to add him and he was added...had no issues...we didn't have a SSN either, the only thing that was weird was b/c his BM's last name was something (obviously) not ours his last name for the 1st 6 on his medical records was his BM's last name...not ours...

I dida Yahoo search on this and I know it exisits...nothing has changed in the year that we adopted...talk with the HR or get someone that knows what they are talking about at the ins. company....you should not have to be out of pocket at the dr's office other than the copay...
