I just got my most recent blood tests back (tried to see my endo before I came down to visit my parents in Florida for the holidays but couldn't get an appointment) after the doctor expressed concern at the 37 pounds I have gained since last year. She found that my thyroid was normal and suggested I stop taking thyroid meds but didn't give any other suggestions - I feel like I'm getting a lot of mixed messages from my various doctors (I also see a neurologist for Epilepsy, a Psychiatrist for OCD/anxiety, gynecologist, dermatologist and a primary care).
I may even need to see a GI specialist because the recent weight gain has caused me to develop heartburn and possible ulcers - I swallowed one of my 6 different medications - (Lamictal, Prozac, Buspar, Methimazole, Spironolactone, Doxycycline) the other night apparently without enough water and have been paying a painful price ever since (heartburn, indigestion, sharp pain in my esophagus - may even have acid reflux disease.)
I guess I just feel at my wits end (my parents mean to be helpful but mostly their message is "lose weight, lose weight"). All of the diagnoses and health problems seem hard to keep up with (was also diagnosed recently with something called vaginismus -vaginal reflex that makes tampon use, gyn exams, sex, etc. impossible).
Anyway, I hope everyone has a happy new year - any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Rebecca
PS I have been on Weight Watchers since June of '04 but in the past year (since being diagnosed with PCOS after an initial 5 pound gain) I have gained, gained, gained.

Hi Rebecca,
I am sorry you are havign a hard time right now. It can be difficult when you have to deal with multiple Dx at the same time.
I am wondering why they put you on thyroid meds in the first place if your thyroid is "normal"? Don't they usually wait until they get test results and a Dx before they start medication, especially since you are already taking so many other meds.
I used to get indigestion/heartburn/reflux/and aspiration (sometimes breathed in the stomach acid). I started taking digestive enzymes w/symptoms, and that took care of everything right away. Now I take digestive enzymes with all my meals, and I don't have ANY indigestion/heartburn, etc.
Digestive enzymes have enzymes that help your body digest different foods. They usually include lipase for fats, protease for proteins, amylase for carbs, peptidase etc.
I really believe that excess weight is not the cause of health problems, it is only a co-symptom of something else. Since weight is not the cause, then losing weight will not solve the problems. When you find out the real problem, what it causing the weight gain, and the other symptoms, and then start treating the real cause, the weight will start coming off, along with the decrease of the other symptoms that the real cause has created.
Besides chromosomal and genetic disorders and trauma, I believe that people get sick because of a nutritional imbalance, or the presence of harmful substances (toxins) or pathogens (disease causing organisms). My formula for optimizing health is to minimize toxins/pathogens and maximize nutritional balance. Get your body healthy by giving it the nutritional support that it needs through a nutrition packed diet and nutritional supplements (like digestive enzymes), and by getting rid af anything that might be causing harm, and it will be able to heal itself of whatever problem is presenting itself right now.
I hope that you can get relief soon.
