Saw Palmetto works by reducing testosterone/DHT and "unbinds" estrogen so your body can utilize it better. If one was pg & taking it, then suddenly stopped taking it, we really don't know what kind of effect a rapid drop in free estrogen can do to a pg (like a rapid drop in progesterone) because estrogen is also a necessity in maintaining a prgy. And menstruation is also brought on by a rapid drop in progesterone AND estrogen. Although it might be ok to taper off I guess?
They say it can have anti-estrogen activity. I've found the opposite for myself. And have read alot about the unbinding of estrogen by lowering testosterone.
I take it only till ovulation. But high testosterone can cause embryonic developmental arrest. So it does have it's benefits all cycle long.
It's a hard question to answer. One that I've pondered for a long time. It's mostly dangerous in a pgy with a male fetus (can affect development of genitals/repro organs).
I googled it a little and this is what it said:
"In mammals, exposure to androgens early in development is essential for masculinization of the male reproductive phenotype. Male fetuses exposed to antiandrogens during perinatal life are permanently demasculinized in their morphology and physiology, whereas exposure to exogenous androgens permanently masculinizes females."
Double edged sword I guess. May have too much androgens for a female, but can't take a chance if it's a male. So I'd say taper off by 5dpo (around implantation). That's my best guess!!
