Ok...after much thought and prayers and research we have decided to go ahead with adopting. My husband who was adopted through the Children's Home Society of NC in 62 is kinda letting me get all the information together then we look over the diffrent options. I have some questions after spending way to much time on all these adoption agency sites.
As far as international adoption goes....the attraction to me of this is that you are able to get a younger child...but after all the waiting and such that I am reading about it seems that adopting a 2 year old here would be no diffrent. Am I just reading bad experiances with the time line of international adoption.
Right now we are looking at Guatamala as an option.
I just feel really...excited,, and scared to death all at the same time with the added bonus of being overwhelmed by info.
Thanks for any input,
Karen

You have a Guatemala post a few posts down w/ at least 1 person that has adopted from Guatemala on there. I'm sure Jen would be able to answer any question about the country you have
We're adopting from China and only looked at China so I have no info about Guatemala. W/ China, you have to be 30 (can start @ 29 1/2) and it's about a year from start to finish.
Good Luck!

I'm here! If you have ANY questions about Guatemala, I'd be MORE than happy to try and answer them. It's been 2 years since we brought Zach home, but I still try to stay up to date on Guatemala just in case things with Taiwan don't work out.
Good luck!

We are adopting through foster care but I wanted to give you (((hugs))) and encouragement because you will need them wherever you decide to adopt from.

I researched adoption both international and domestic for almost 2 years before my DH and I came to a decision... so I understand the confusion, there is so much information out there that sometimes it can make your head swim!
We decided to go with domestic adoption through the system for a number of reasons, one there seemed to be a great need for adoptive parents once your got through all the red tape, and secondly the cost of international adoption is so high, both my husband and I had very good jobs and could have easily gotten a home equity loan to cover the costs, but if we had done that I would have had keep working to help cover the costs of the loan which is something I didn’t want to do.
I am happy to say that we did make the right decision, we were placed with a beautiful 4 month old baby boy which is the light of our lives, and I am a stay at home Mommy!!
The wait for him from start to finish was about 5 months much quicker than we expected!
So really it depends on your preferences, your plans once the child is in your home and of course how long your willing to wait for that child.
