Default getting worse, before getting better???

Hi all,
I'm new to this site and I really like it. I was wondering if anyone out there on met. has experienced pcos symptoms getting worse after starting met?
Here's my story.... for the last several years I have been on desogen bcps and spironolactone 50 mg 2x day. I did really well on this combination, as far as the hair control and periods go. But my cholesteral was terrible and I had an abnormal GGT. So my doc put me on met. 850 mg 2x day. and stopped bcps and spironolactone. I have been on it since the end of Sept. At first I noticed changes in my skin, oily and acne. Next I noticed that the hair was coming back on my stomach and getting muvh thicker and coarser on legs, arms and pits. Also no period. But I also noticed great things too.... like my cholesteral is normal now, I feel better and lost a little weight. My doc said I could take met and spironolactone in mid Dec. because I was whining about all the hair. One week later I started my period. I normally never start without provera, or bcps. What should I think??

Thanks! Evette

Hi Evette,

Sounds like the met is working for you! Two things come to mind... the hair growth probably increased b/c you stopped taking the spiro and the bcp. BCPs can hold pcos symptoms at bay... that's what happened to me. I stopped BCPs and all hell broke loose. Maybe you'll see a decrease in hair growth since you've started spiro again?

Second, I found that when I started met, my skin started breaking out too. So far, that's the only negative thing that's happened (besides the trips to the bathroom). But, I've attributed the breakouts to my hormones changing from the met, which can be seen as a positive thing. I haven't had AF yet, but I"m hoping it's soon.

Congrats on AF's arrival! That's one big step in the process. It's a great achievement

good luck,
jen

Thanks!
I was so discouraged at first, I just knew that met was not working for me. I have noticed that my skin started clearing up right before starting the spiro in mid Dec. I'm not sure if I ovulated with this AF, as I am not taking my temp. We already have a set of 9 yr. old triplets from several rounds of fertility treatments. We would love to have another baby, but our insurance no longer covers ANY fertility, and we would rather not have another set of multiples. But if met will really do all that I hope it can, maybe..... we could have just one more. If not we are happy and feel very blessed to have our three "babies".
Thanks again I really appreciate knowing I'm not alone in this battle against pcos. I also wonder do you think that spiro had anything to do with AF showing up?
