Unhappy Getting Worse ( a little long sorry)

I was just wondering if anyone else noticed a certain time or age that the hair loss/growth got a lot worse, really fast? I have dealt with PCOS since puberty, but I have always been so thankful that I didnt lose my hair, and didnt have much facial hair. Well guess what, it's hitting me hard now. I will be 27 in a few months. It seems like in just the last half a year, my hair situation has exploded. The hair on my face has went from small patches, to almost full on beard, and its thicker and darker. Then my poor head. I used to have REALLY thick hair. It was one of my favorite things. Now it falls out like Im a chemo patient. I run my hands through it, and get handsfull. Im scared its not going to stop. And my left temple has a really noticable bald spot. One good thing is since its all falling out, and my hair is thinner, the curl came out. I get compliments on it. But if it doesnt stop, then I wont have any left to be curly either. So I guess I just needed to rant, and get some other input. Does losing weight help with losing your hair? Does it help the hair thats already gone? Sorry this is so long, but I just needed to get it off my chest.

I'm not pretending to have the answers, but it seems to me that what happens with many of us who have high testosterone levels is that we go through the same sort of stages with regard to hair as males do, but sometimes a bit later than them. Hence a full moustache and beard at 27 instead of 20 and the start of the balding process at 27 instead of 25 mightn't be all that extraordinary. If many males seem to find the balding process difficult to accept, is it surprising that we do?

I am with you .. as I have aged my hair growth has increasd disturbingly on my face and my hair loss is sever .. I hve no hair on either temple and it is now working its way up to the top of my head. . my shedding is diffuse and I have thin hair all round I now wear cosmetic hair ... my self esteem is at its lowest point ever.

as for the weight stopping hair loss I say no ..I am a thin PCOS'er and I have sever hair loss if I lost more weight I would slip down the plug hole..

go to an endocrinologist and see if he can give you any of the following which CAN help

Spirolactone
FLutamide
or propecia (Proscar)

I am unfortunte in that i get VERY sick on all medicaiton and i tried all the above ..

My excess hair got much worse about the same time I started exercising and losing weight. In another thread (don't remember which one, sorry) someone said that testerone is stored in fat tissue. When the fat is metabolized, the hormones are released into the body, making hormone related issues worse. It made me stop exercising for awhile, and the hair stopped spreading (my hair didnt get any darker or coarser, just more started growing).

Wow thats wild that you said that, because I have been excercising, and losing weight. Ive lost almost 20 lbs in the last 8 weeks. Maybe thats it. Who would have thought that Id try to do better, and this would get worse. Geez you gotta love PCOS! But maybe its encouragement then, it means Im doing a good job burning fat. I'll look at it like that, then it seems more positive.

Fat stores estrogen. If you burn off fat, you reduce your store of estrogen. Unless your testosterone levels drop correspondingly, problems like beard growth and balding will tend to get worse rather than better. It's all a question of the relative effects on estrogen and testosterone levels.
