Hi AngelCOH - I'm in the UK too!
I tried doing slimming world and it didn't work for me at all I gained weight!!!
I am no good with restrictions etc
I now eat low GI food and don't bother eating junk most of the time - once in a blue moon there is something completely nutrition free like an oreo cookie or something ... but I like how I feel on good food.
My advice for when starting out is to avoid finding substitutes for bad stuff ... good stuff is totally different ... find new things that you like/will like. It's a new adventure, new menu, new you.
You'll be surprised!

I sorta fell off the wagon, but I am eager to get back on track. I'm still riding my bike, but that will stop as I am having some foot surgery! Great for the diet though, as I won't be able to get to the kitchen as often to find snacks!! LOL!!
Wonder bread and I think Holsum has 100% Stoneground bread at Walmart Superstores and it is really great. I try to only have one slice at a meal, but that is hard. I also try really hard to limit my other carbs if I have bread.

You're right. So far I have noticed that the cravings for sugar have reduced since I've been on Met and I haven't had any of the side effects since I've been eating mostly low GI.

My Mood: Points: 954.77 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 954.77 | I guess I should poke my head in here too...so...HI!
I've actually just started the G.I Diet after a month and a bit of flying solo on my weight-loss (with about 15 lbs gone, in that expedition), but I didn't like trying to balance everything out myself, and hated the way I felt if I didn't balance out my proteins and sugars. Feeling yicky and tired is not fun!
I've done about 3/4 of a week on the G.I Diet so-far (Using Gallop's 'The G.I Diet: Clinical Edition'), and I've dropped 5lbs, I feel so good right now. I love how easy it is and simple especially after I went to the grocery and bulk-store to get some green-light foods. I live at home, so grocery-shopping between three people can be a bit difficult.
Since I've started I've found a love for food that I completely forgot about, and I love experimenting with different things for sammiches, and salads. And 1% cottage cheese and druit is one of my favorite things evah!
I'm working on getting my boyfriend on the plan too, he wants to start eating better, and with his busy-lifestyle, he's always reaching for junk-food and fast-food...Maybe this'll help him!

My Mood: Points: 3,043.56 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,043.56 | I'm starting the GI diet tomorrow. I went grocery shopping last night and am feeling somewhat confident. I'm not much of a cook so that is a concern, but I am really hoping that the benefits outweigh the possible challenges.
In order to make life easier I'll eat the same thing every day for this week.
B: Bran/Flaxseed Cereal with yogurt, fruit and almonds
S1: fruit & yogurt
L: Open faced turkey/ham sandwich w/ mustard, lettuce & cucumber
S2: fruit & yogurt
D: chicken breast w/ a bunch of veggies & a slice of bread
S3: low fat no sugar added chocolate ice cream with almonds
I think the chocolate ice cream at night will help me stick to plan. |

My Mood: Points: 954.77 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 954.77 | Ooo, that does sound yummy..
What brand is the icecream if you don't mind me asking? I've all since given up on trying to find a sweet-chocolate treat that I don't feel guilty or worried about.
And it's odd, I think I've gained a bit this weekend. I need to start making myself a care-package of groceries when I go to the BF's family's house...I always gain weight after a weekend there, even if we try to eat healthy. That being said...there's not much there I can eat anyway...Gargh!
Hope everyone has a great week.
Happy Monday!

My Mood: Points: 3,043.56 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,043.56 | The Ice Cream is Dreyer's Slow Churned Rich & Creamy No Sugar Added - Triple Chocolate. It is made with splenda. I can't wait to eat it tonight. One thing that I am going to have to keep in mind though - serving size. After a long day of being "good" sometimes I feel like I deserve a big dessert as a reward. That doesn't even make sense. lol.

My Mood: Points: 954.77 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 954.77 | Drat, I was in the grocery store today and totally forgot to look! But thanks ladies, I'll definately keep an eye out.
Luckilly most of my sugary cravings have been settled by nectarine, or some vanilla yogurt, I had oatmeal today with some apples, and that was so yummy.
As a treat today, I went to my favorite tea-store and bought...like 100g of two new loose-leaf teas...They're both herbal, and smell amazing. I love tea to help perk me up mid-day, and it makes a snack seem even more filling. Mmm...I'm having leftover turkey chili over a salad for lunch...
Chili salad!

My Mood: Points: 3,043.56 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,043.56 | I didn't do too well yesterday even though it was my first day. It was all fine and good until I realized that I forgot to take my chicken out of the freezer to defrost so DH and I ended up ordering in instead. Dinner has always been the biggest issue because we get lazy, but I started today well and have ended it on plan. I am finishing my chocolate ice cream with almonds now. I really like that the ice cream lasts a long time because I also have to chew through almonds. lol.
I resisted homemade banana bread with a delicious looking spread today, but I failed to resist having two Reisens candies. I'll work to make sure I don't do that took often.
Chicken for dinner tonight was good, but I had forgotten how nervous I am when cooking meat. I sauteed a chicken breast with old bay seasoning and just kept adding a little water when the pan looked to dry. It made for very moist and yummy chicken, but I get so nervous about how well done it is unless it is dry. lol. I may need a meat thermometer. Bonus part of dinner - my husband wasn't hungry so I got a whole steamfresh bag of it to myself. It is funny how eating a lot of anything in general makes me feel slightly guilty - but it is steamed broccoli - I don't know anyone who has gained weight by eating broccoli.
All right - I am done rambling. I hope everyone is doing well today.

My Mood: Points: 1,677.23 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,677.23 | ok, I just got done reading the whole thread! I am so excited to be starting this diet. I am ttc and hope loosing this weight will help. I have a few questions. Do you think organic things like preserves and peanut butter (made with peanuts and salt) would be a green? And can I use regular eggs and just separate the yolk (I have to buy reg eggs for DH anyway)? Thanks so much!

My Mood: Points: 6,914.83 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,914.83 | so I've been lurking...use to post more when I was actively losing. I had lost 85lbs last year and gained 40 back this year due to full time teaching, graduate school and very little time to bust a hard sweat(I have to drench before I lose, little things do nothing for me). But after going to the dr and seeing my a1c go back up after I worked so hard to get it down and wanting to have a baby like yesterday, I am determined, so I restarted today. I thought middle of the week was just as good as any. I know how to lose weight, the carbs just slowly creeped back in.
One thing about all the yogurt conversations:
If you live near a Kroger's, they have a brand that I love. It's called Carb Master. It only has 3 carbs in a cup total. I live off of the vanilla because it mixes with everything, fruit, granola, high fiber cereal, oatmeal and since it is such a little cup, I eat less of the starch that I need in the a.m. to get my engine going.
This morning different though:
I had a bagel with low fat cream cheese (starting off slower, so I don't crash)
linked with a piece of smoked turkey for breakfast
Lunch I visited the whole foods market adn stocked up on a few snacks I liked so lunch was a bowl of organic veg soup, 4 thin flatbread crackers with hummus and a small hand of raw almonds
Dinner I took leftover whole wheat pasta and doctored it up(my in-law made it flavorless) and baked it in the over with mozzarella on it and ww garlic toast. I had a small scoop and 1 piece of toast.
Tomorrow will be even less bad carbs to good carbs...I need gradual phaseout or headache will ensue. I didn't even bad snack with all the junk food around here (14 yo niece)
*belly grumbles*
