Hi CarrieBerry- I think that what you are forgetting is that while the first phase is really short, the average person will loose 1 lb a week in the second phase. I think those of us who are very overweight and have a lot to lose will see it come off faster at first before it slows down. The other thing you need to remember is that initial weight loss is mostly attributed to water.

and even if not and you lose exactly 1 lb a week... SURE, that is 2.5 years.... but after just over a year you will be 70 lbs lighter.... that is gonna be RAD!!!!!!

I am so excited to have this thread and you ladies! Hubby and I officially start tomorrow. I wanted to start saturday, but he convinced me to give us the weekend as our last hoorah. I am glad we did. I went through and cleaned out our cabinets and our fridge... so we can really get a fresh start. I am stoked. I am taking my before picture later today. and I plan on weighing in and taking a picture every sunday... that should help me stay motivated.

Thanks for the encouragement! I agree that it will come off faster in the beginning, but like he says, it will eventually taper out and many weeks we won't lose any so that is why the average is 1 pound a week. It just seems like its going to take a really long time. True though, 70 pounds lighter is going to be REALLY RAD and I'm sure that motivation will be plenty to allow me to lose the other 1/2.

I just was wondering if anyone else was frusterated by this as well.

The way I understood Phase II is that it is for maintaining your weight. Maybe you just mis-typed (or maybe I'm wrong).

Good luck to you and your husband ttotays.

Carrie I understand your frustrations!! It would hurt my motivation knowing it could take up to 2.5 years! however, my first week I lost just over 6 lbs...and about a .5-1 lb each week there after. however, I'd make sure to include some sort of exercise routine. Cardio is great, but if you're IR cardio isn't enough...make sure to include weights! Just stay positive, every little bit you lose, you're going to be happy! Don't fret about how long it will take you to drop the entire amount...just go at it slowly, and do your best!

hi all of you wonderful cysters! thanks for this thread...i have been having a hard time getting my lifestyle in line with the low GI diet. i've read the book that novgirl mentioned and i was a little confused. i've done some research online about low GI and i'm still a little confused. i understand what low GI means and how it affects us as cysters...but i'm just a little bit confused about how it will be incorporated into my life. can any of you cysters that are already doing this tell me a little bit about what it's like on a routine basis? i already have 2 books on pcos and GI diet so i'd like to understand a little more before i got a 3, lol.

from what i know about the exercising, it's best to put in a blend of cardio and some kind of resistance training. yoga, pilates, dancing, and swimming are good examples of things that combine the two. or you can run, walk, or use a home machine like a bike or elliptical machine to get the cardio in. 30 min (even if it's broken up) a couple of times a week is recommended. strength or resistance training 2-3 a week with dumbells or resistance bands or calisthenics is also recommended. from my understanding, it's the combination of the two that's important.

and best of luck to you ladies working so hard with this! and wish me luck, too, when i get it going.

Hello. I recommend http://www.gidiet.com/en-us/.

I'm somewhat confused about your post. You understand what a low G.I diet does, but you don't know how to incooperate into your life?! What book were you reading? Focus on eating only foods with a low G.I rating, it won't spike your blood suger, there for you won't 'crash' and you won't get hungry as soon. The incooperating it into your life style is to change what you're currently eating (most people, white foods, potatoes, pasta, refined flours and sugars) to only eating low G.I rating foods. (beans, whole wheat pasta, fresh veggies, fruits...etc)

hi laikola....

thanks for your response and for asking me for clarification. you know, reading your response made me realize that my question came across pretty unclear, so i apologize about that. my question is just that i don't really understand what i've been doing wrong because most of what i've been eating are what i should be eating: primarily veggies, whole wheats, "good" proteins and i just don't understand what else i should/could be doing. the books i had were

AmazonAmazon AmazonAmazon
it sounds like the gallop book makes it easy to follow and maybe i should give it a try. wish me luck...i think i'm going to order it and see how it goes.

While we are on questions. I would like to know what everyone is doing about sweeteners. I am trying to avoid stuff like sweet and low and I was using splenda but I have been reading some scary stuff about that. I think there are times when sweetener is just needed... so any recommendations?
Sugar in the Raw?
Fructose?
Something else I have not heard of...

I haven't used any sweetener. I know when I started eating my Kashi cereal (which, can be kind of dry and could use sweetener) I didn't like it with skim milk. Tasted to me like cardboard. So, instead of using skim milk with my cereal...I use Dannon Light and Fit Vanilla yogurt. It makes it a little sweeter, and I think it's delicious!

I'm curious to see what other ladies do!!

Anything specific you are trying to sweeten?

I use Splenda personally because I find it has the best taste. Gallop lists Splenda, Equal, Sweet 'N Low and Sugar Twin as good replacements to real sugar. I've tried Sugar Twin Brown Sugar in the past and it wasn't too bad. I really am not concerned of any harmful effects from them, but maybe I'm being naive.

Gallop also doesn't seem to be concerned about them either and says that there is a lot of misinformation that hasn't been proven yet.

I sweeten oatmeal, high fiber cereals, and tea.

I was thinking specifically about oatmeal. I think I will stick to Splenda for now and keep doing research. I have an appointment with an Endo at the End of June. I will put that on the list to ask about.

I am trying to avoid sweetner's all together right now... but I know there are times I will need (want) them... so I just want to make sure I am going the safest and healthiest route.

what sweetener is used in your yogurt? I spent forEVER in the yogurt section yesterday trying to find the best and healthiest one. I finally settled on an all natural kind and now I can't even remember what kind of sweetener they used. It was a no-fat, no sugar added yogurt in vanillia.

It has Splenda. No sugar added, just the splenda.

I am doing it, I am doing it! It is not so hard... I know all ready I need to get a recipe book because I am all ready running low on ideas.

I had a headache most of yesterday and today I am feeling sluggish but I think that is just my body working out all the bad food I crammed into it over the weekend.

What I really like is how the book says that if you follow the diet 90% of the time, you are doing good. That makes me happy. So, if once or twice a week I eat some red light food, I don't have to feel guilty about it. I just hop back to green light food with some yellow. I am going to save my "running the red light" for the weekends.

I am going to weigh in and take another pic on Monday. I hope I will have lost enough to stay encouraged.
