Thanks for the information. I may run that by my doctor when I talk to him again. Also thanks for welcoming me into your group. Its nice to be able to talk to people who are going through the same thing as me. Good luck to all of you.

Leah - don't let a few little cookies stand in your way of making progress!!!!! I am not sure if it will help you or not, but I (literally) had to go through our cabinets and frige and get rid of the bad stuff... we didn't have much since we knew we were going on the diet, but now, the only "temptations" we have in the house are tortilla chips and pretzels. We kept those for our niece and nephews to munch on when they come over.

Ladies - I have a wicked headache today. I think it is because I didn't have enough protien. I had delicious steak for dinner... so hopefully it goes away soon!

HI!! Kinda new to the whole GI diet concept! But am trying to start .. giving myself this week to figure out what I like and what works (and to get rid of stuff at home ...) I bought 2 books from R. Gallop that have some good ideas and lists of items. I am hoping to find some people (one?) to bounce ideas off about low GI foods etc. So far I have not prepared any major meals .. but have my breakfast down pretty good ! Oatmeal or yougart LOL wih fruit (blueberries or grapes) I did have an AWESOME salad for lunch today with grilled chicken breast - it was at a resturant too! I ususally blow it bad when I eat out .. I did have a few croutons but otherwise a very low GI and healthy lunch! anyway was wondering if anyone has made the 'granola bars' or the 'muffins' in the GI DIET book .. are they good? worth making? I need some handy snack food like that .... THANKS

Hi FLJill - CarrieBerry made the homemade granola bars... but she has not told us how they are yet.

It sounds like you are off to a great start. I am new to the GI diet myself, but if you read through the posts here, there are some great ideas!

I am going to try to make some lasagna next week. Using Healthy Choice spaghetti sauce with extra tomatoes and onion and garlic that I add, ground lean turkey, FF cottage cheese, low fat mozerella and EGGPLANT sliced really thin instead of noodles. I am hoping it is delicious!

Welcome! I've made the granola bars and their pretty good actually. I was a little skeptical, but I had one for a snack after I made them and then froze the rest in snack baggies like Gallop suggested. I haven't tried any from the freezer yet, so hopefully that doesn't ruin the taste. They were a nice treat. The muffins are next on my list to make when I have the time.

Great job eating healthy at a resturant. I think that will be very hard for me to do, that is why I'm staying away until I get this whole willpower thing under control.

I totally recommend you getting all of the temptation out of your house like you mentioned. I boxed up what we had and gave it to our parents so it didn't go to waste. You can also donate the non-perishable, un-opened items to your local food pantry.

Good luck!!

Oh, this sounds delish! I was making a lasagna the other day to take over to my grandparents house for them because they are not well and I was sooo tempted because I love lasagna. I love eggplant, but have never cooked with it myself. Can you give me some more details on how you are planning on doing this? Pre-cooking the slices and how? Thanks!!

I need help getting more veggies in my diet. Any suggestions?

I hate salads. Well, that isn't completely true. I like them fine when they have croutons, full fat dressings and other unhealthy things added. I've tried and tried with every diet I've ever been on to like them but I end up making them and only eating one bite because they are boring and tastless (in my opinion). I've tried lots of fat free dressings, adding low fat meats and cheeses.

If I make an omelet (egg beaters) I'll add plenty of veggies, but I don't like eating omelets all that often.

I end up eating carrot and celery sticks or steamed broccoli but that gets boring. Any suggestions or ways you incorporate veggies into your diet? I like most vegetables except for radishes and peas.

CarrieB - Hmmm, veggies in your diet. I should be able to help with this (I coordinate a few community health programs to prevent diabetes/hypertension). Let me look up some of my handouts, I'll post before I leave work.

Tiff - where do you get Healthy Choice pasta sauce from? I went grocery shopping the other day and Meijer didn't have it, or at least I didn't see it. I'd totally make spaghetti and stuff with that sauce and whole grain noodles...

Hey ladies, i am struggling with my Low GI diet before my books arrive here in greece, have searched online for the full list 'traffic light guide' of foods, but cant find it. There are so many types of food that i want to know which group they are in......

Is there any way someone can scan & attach the pages? Or are there too many pages?

I want for dinner tonight my favourite wraps; with chicken, mushroom, mixed peppers & feta cheese - have NO idea if this is quite good or sinfully bad (I know its not great cos the wraps are all white here in greece)

Thanks for the support xxx

Leah - I just get it at King Soopers... I think that is the same a Kroger in other states?

Claire - I think your wrap seems good... except of course the white wrap. Is there any whole grain bread products there you can substitute like a pita maybe?

CarrieBerry - I am not going to pre-cook the egglpant. I am going to slice it super thin though (Like 1/8th of an inch) or less if I can. We have a mandolin at home that can slice veggies super thin, but I think a cheese slicer would do the same thing. Then I will cook the lasagna after it is made at 410 for about an hour. Since the meat will be cooked alll ready, I may go to 450 and drop the time to 35 minutes and eat it with the eggplant a little firm? I will be sure to let you ladies know how it goes.

hi all! I am doing ok today - had my old fashion oatmeal w/ splenda & cin (Made with skim milk) for breakfast and it was quite yummy ... kinda like I remember when I was a kid - unlike the instant i've been eating for years! just finished my lunch - salad (romaine) with chicken and oil/vin (mostly vin)

I have a ? - is boars head chicken from the deli OK? it Arostica (sp?) ... very low fat but i think it has 1 carb/2oz .... I love it!! its so yummy and I can't cook chicken well. sometimes I will get a thick slice (at the deli) and dice it up for my salad .... opinions? green light?

also I can't find 'new potatoes' are they just young potatoes or what? I have found nothing that says NEW .... grrrr not a big potato eater anyway except when I can't have one!! lol

with the yogart ... I've been using Activia light (vanilla) .. I hope its ok.... very yummy with blueberries!

sounds like several of us on are on board with this GI diet now!!!

I have not been dx with pcos YET .. .my gyno just referred me to an endo.dr - but if i am not I sured missed a good opportunity! I have almost every symptom!

I just love how excited and motivated everyone is!

Leah - I love the idea of slimming down for summer and fertility!!!!!! We are in the same boat!

Jill - It sounds like the boars head is a green light. 2 carbs for a serving of 4 oz. is not bad at all. We had a hard time with the new potatoes too. We found "fingerlings" (the hubby calls them finger things) at a natural grocer by us. We bought enough for 2 dinners and had our first round last night. they were awesome. I boiled them for about 30 minutes so they were still a little firm then I add a teaspoon of Promise and some parsley with a dash of salt and pepper to lightly coat them. AWESOME!!!!!!

Tiff - wow, those fingerlings sound delish! Are you a chef or something? And yeah, I was supposed to start my TTC break this month but decided to just wing it this cycle...starting June 1 (or whenever AF shows) I'm totally taking a break for summer. I'm gonna focus on being the healthiest me (and DH), and get ready for my harvest time in the fall! No temping or nothing! I can't wait!
