I'd had a pretty good day, feeling okay, went out for my 2 mile walk after dinner, then I am in the shower afterwards and I discover that not only do I have a zit on my butt (unusual for me, but not the first time), but I have what seems to be a large red pimple/cyst/something on my left shoulder! It's right on the top of the shoulderblade, slightly more towards the arm than the neck. It's slightly tender but not too painful, but it is bright red and it's about an inch across! I've had plenty of zits in odd places before, but this is a new one. And it's much bigger than anything I usually get. Guess I'll try icing it down to see if I can get the size reduced.
That's what I hate about this dumb condition - just when you are feeling fairly normal, something oddball like this crops up to make you feel like a freakazoid again! Thank goodness my bf is out of town until Weds., hopefully all will be clear by then!
Hi are you sure its not a boil? I used to get them all the time on my inner thighs and in my arm pits. They were so painful. If thast what it is it will have a painful "core" Heat will help get it out. I used a mixture of black drawing sab (Icthyamol (SP)ointment and neosporin on it. It helped draw it out. Good luck with it!

No clue. What is the difference between a pimple and a boil? Seems to me like most cysters who have posted about boils seem to get them in sweaty places (under breasts, in waistband area, inner thighs, etc.) but the top of the shoulder??? I will try heat, though, thanks for the advice :-)
It's not too painful yet, but I'm afraid with my bra strap rubbing it all day at work tomorrow it might get worse.
I would think the bra strap rubbing over it is what caused the boil/zit in the first place. Friction + moisture + sensitive skin = boil. Back in the good ole days when I was exercising, I used to get something like that every now and again. I second the "black salve" , but you better remember to cover it with a dressing... otherwise you will get stains on your bra straps or clothing. Or you could go see the doctor and have it lanced. HTH
You can pretty much get a boil anywhere. I have always had a problem with them. You mentioned about your bra strap rubbing. That could be how you got it. Any kind of rubbing or friction can give you one. That advice was great about the drawing salve. Thats the best stuff to use. It clears it up quick.
I found a pimple on my butt in the shower yesterday too. Gross!! LOL This part of the PCOS really sucks!

Hi,
I get them on my inner thighs they just keep coming back. I had one on my back a couple of years ago right where the bra goes. my bra kept rubbing it and no matter what I did it kept coming back same exact place. I ended up going to the derm. about it and was told it was a type of cyst that has to be cut out, (the one on my back) other wise it just keeps coming back no matter what you do to it.
I also time to time get them around my neck and shoulder right in the crease. Also right in the middle of the front of my neck like a huge beacon. I like to think at that point I have gone to the dark side ( alittle starwars humor) . Those I use neosporan, I also use a claifiying cleanser/lotion, Boire or clinque helps till it goes away, but as far as to keep them from comming back I don't know may need to see a derm about them.
Also don't worry you are not alone in getting them on the rear end also. Thats my worst problem area for some reason.
__________________ Current meds are: generic verison of ziac 2.5 mg which is called bixoprolol/hctz for hbp.
Prometrium 100 mg was 200 mg but was dropped last year but is not working as well this for reg per. Can't take the pill because it was rasing my bp up too much which was how I was discovered to be hypertensiive
also taking spironolactone 25 mg for hbp but also the sideeffect of helping control hair growth.
Thanks all for the advice. I left a message this morning for my doctor, waiting for him to call back. Maybe he will send me to a derm (bf has been encouraging me to see a derm anyway for my rosacea, as I haven't been to one since it was diagnosed years ago). I put ice on the big shoulder one last night, and it is no worse this morning. I may try some Mint Julep mask on both spots this evening, that stuff seems to quell all kinds of skin issues for me.
Ask your doctor to recommend you to a derm that knows about PCOS. Thats is what my gyn did. She works in parntership with one. It helped in explaining about the problems with PCOs and and where the weird places the acne was made it a tiny less embarrassing also. If you understand what I mean.

Gosh this makes me think about the time i had one on my elbow when I was in nursing school. My elbow was so sore and painful and red and swollen. Of course my instructor, Brad, wanted everyone to see what it looked like! So I was the "lab" for that day! Oh My gosh he wanted to get some of the ooze on a slide for everyone to look at! I did it. But only for 20 bonus points! LOL How nasty was that?

What is black salve and where do I find it? I hate these things. I will also occasionally get them on my shoulders. Any place that gets friction for to long seems like open season for these boils.

Black salve is also known as drawing salve. You should be able to find it at any drug store or pharmacy... you might have to ask where it is, though. It is a tarry looking neosporin textured ointment you can usually find in a tube. You want to use a bandaid or other dressing with it, because it stains. Also, it works by pulling the yuck in the boil to the surface, which can also stain. It usually takes repeated applications, but it does work (at least in my experience). Nothing like a good old time remedy. HTH
It also help if you use hot compresses on it. Soak them in hot water and salt or epsom salt. That also helps draw out the infection. After you soak it until the water cools then dry and put on the black salve. You can also mix the salve with neosporin to cut down on scarring.

Do you buy chance know the name of the one you use.
I went to the vitamin store today and found a "Black" ointment. It says not to use it though on open wounds, and I have one that will not close, just keeps draining (YUCK!!! ). I have tried just about everything and it is driving me nuts!!!
Thanks for all input and my sympathy goes out to all of us who have to deal with this not so lovely peice of PCOS.

Its also called by the name Ichthammol Ointment 20% "Black Salve" or Icthyol Ointment. I dont know the brand name or anything like that. I would think you could get it at a regular drugstore or maybe even walmart. You might just have to ask. Good luck!
